In our second deep-dive, we ask: ❓ What supply chain due diligence information is included in the battery passport? 💡 The EU Battery Regulation requires companies to share their due diligence reports publicly as part of the battery passport, ensuring transparency in the sourcing of key materials like cobalt and lithium. However, the Battery Pass consortium encourages companies to go further by adding voluntary data — such as third-party assurances and supply chain indices. Curious about how supply chain due diligence strengthens sustainability in the battery sector? ▶ Download the full factsheet for more details: https://lnkd.in/eZjjNcgj and explore Chapter 6.4 of the Battery Passport Content Guidance https://lnkd.in/eYRFUG-U #BatteryPassport #Transparency #DueDiligence #CircularEconomy #DPP

Battery Pass is a consortium project aiming to advance the implementation of the battery passport in Europe and beyond
Info
Co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Battery Pass consortium project aims to advance the implementation of the battery passport based on requirements of the EU Battery Regulation and beyond. Led by system change company Systemiq GmbH, the consortium comprises eleven partners and a broad network of associated and supporting organisations to draft content and technical standards for a digital battery passport, demonstrate them in a pilot application and assess its potential value. The project started in April 2022 and runs over three years.

Last week, we shared an overview of the 80+ mandatory data points required for the battery passport. In our next few posts we will take deep-dives into some of these data categories, starting off with: ❓ How are circularity aspects considered for the battery passport? 🔁 💡 The battery passport plays a key role in boosting sustainability by enhancing repurposing efforts and improving the efficiency of battery collection, dismantling, and recycling. It covers crucial circularity data in four main areas: 1️⃣ Recycled & renewable content 2️⃣ Materials & composition 3️⃣ Removability & replaceability 4️⃣ End-of-life management Want to explore the circularity information to be held in the battery passport in even more detail? ▶ Download the full factsheet for more insights: https://lnkd.in/eN54HE_c #BatteryPass #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #BatteryRegulation #DPP #BatteryRecycling

Interested in the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (#ESPR) and Digital Product Passports (#DPP)? ⬇ Then see below for some great new resources on the topic from the European Commission.
In May 2024 a webinar presented a comprehensive overview of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (#ESPR). During the webinar many questions have been raised concerning both: the #ESPR and also the Digital Product Passport (#DPP). The answer to the questions have now been published in a FAQ document: https://lnkd.in/e4ACjV_C For those who missed the webinar you can still rewatch it here: https://lnkd.in/eGzrSHYx And the Commission Website also gives a lot of information regarding the topic here: https://lnkd.in/e9xzpezP

At the half-way point of this Q&A series we ask: ❓ What value does the battery passport unlock? 💡 In short: The digital battery passport is more than just a compliance tool. Battery passports offer a strategic opportunity for businesses to generate value, foster digital and green markets, and introduce sustainable business models – all while reducing environmental and social impacts. There’s so much more to share on this topic that we will run a separate Q&A series on it later this year so watch this space! ▶ If you’re already keen to dive into more details, take a look at our short factsheet here https://lnkd.in/eetwGkZB Or download the full study ‘The Value of the EU Battery Passport’ at https://lnkd.in/eUQ4agDv #BatteryPass #Sustainability #circulareconomy #BatteryRegulation #DPP

Today, we cover another question Battery Pass gets asked regularly: ❓ Which information will be requested for the battery passport and who will have access to it? 💡 The EU Battery Regulation outlines around 80 mandatory data points for electric vehicle (EV) batteries along their entire lifecycle. We have organised these into seven content clusters. Below, we zoom into the data points in the ‘Identifiers and product data’ category. Want to learn more about the data held in the battery passport and who will have access to what information? 👉 Download our latest factsheet at https://lnkd.in/eKTHp6rp #BatteryPass #Sustainability #circulareconomy #BatteryRegulation #DPP

Will you be attending the New Mobility Congress in Łódź, Poland, the largest conference for sustainable mobility leaders in Central Europe? ▶ If so, make sure to head to the Power Stage on 26th September to follow the panel discussion on 'Battery Reverse Logistics – Are We Ready For This Inverted Supply Chain?' where Dr. Andreas Schneider will be representing the Battery Pass consortium. 🔋 ♻ Why do battery reverse logistics matter?! EV batteries that have reached the end of their first life can be reused for different and less demanding purposes or recycled for their valuable critical raw materials. In order to do so, there must be an efficient process to allow the safe transportation of batteries and a sustainable and profitable model for recycling and repurposing them. This requires different stakeholders to work together to develop a more robust process for battery reverse logistics. This panel session is dedicated to exploring the advancements, challenges, and future directions in battery reverse logistics. It will delve into innovative processes and technologies aimed at enhancing the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of reverse logistics for lithium-ion batteries, particularly in the context of electric vehicles (EVs).
