Yonkers Mayor Spano Says He's Not Running For Westchester County Exec

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The race may be on for Westchester County executive, but Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano will not running, according to lohud.com.

Spano, a Democratic, said Monday that he had thought about running and had urged to do so by many people, but ultimately decided this year is “not the time for me to leave the position as mayor,” according to lohud.com.

The decision ends a year-long period of speculation over Spano’s immediate future in Westchester, according to lohud.com, which said that he was the early favorite to earn the Democratic Party’s nomination for the post.

The incumbent, Republican Rob Astorino, is running for his third term in the executive’s chair and has already amassed more than $2.5 million for the effort.

Longtime Democratic Yonkers County Legislator Ken Jenkins officially announced his intention to challenge Astorino in August.
