Abhas Mitra
Dr Abhas Kumar Mitra superannuated as Head, Theoretical Physics Section, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, and is currently an (Hon) Adjunct Professor in Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. He qualified as a Senior Research Associate in Goddard Space Flight Centre, NASA, in 2004, and in 2006, worked as a visiting professor in Max Planck Institute of Nuclear Physics, Heidelberg. He has carried out research in an amazingly wide arena: Gamma Ray Astronomy, High Energy Astrophysics, Classical Mechanics, General Relativity, Cosmology and Gravitational Collapse. He pioneered theoretical research on Cosmic Gamma Ray Bursts in India since 1995. He has authored almost 120 research papers or book chapters. 2.His peer reviewed research papers have shown the century old concept of “Black Holes’’ is illusory, and the so-called astrophysical “black holes” are likely to be Ultra-magnetized, Ultra-hot Balls of Fire (MECOs) which possess strong magnetic fields vis-à-vis mathematical black holes which have no magnetic field. nasty AMPS firewalls because there is no way of making a black hole in the first place. Predictably, the physics community is not enamored with Mitra's ideas. After all, scientists have spent almost 100 years contemplating black holes and basing really cool and radical theories on them. But recent astronomical data on so-called black hole candidates (BHCs) show they have stupendously large magnetic fields, which classic black holes simply cannot have. So it looks like Mitra is right. Even the legendary Stephen Hawking himself recently cast doubts on the existence of black holes, and has started calling them gray holes instead. Unfortunately, the absence of black holes is bad news for many current cosmological theories, especially ones like Lee Smolin's evolving universes, where mommy universes give birth to black holes that collapse into baby universes; a kind of genetic selection process that results in universes with lots of black holes and high probabilities of being friendly to intelligent life based on the anthropic principle
found any mathematical errors in them. So the conclusion is inescapable: The only true black holes that can exist are ones with zero mass. This doesn't mean that there are no very large astronomical objects that look a lot like black holes when viewed from far away. It simply means that they don't have external Event Horizons. Mitra calls them eternally-collapsing objects (ECOs). The problem is that the black hole candidates astrophysicists identify almost always HAVE ENORMOUS MAGNETIC FIELD – larger than any other magnetic fields in the universe. Some may argue that those magnetic fields originate outside their Event Horizons from matter spinning into them, but THAT ARGUMENT SEEMS SHAKY.. On the other hand, there is nothing that would prevent ECOs from having an ARBITRARILY STRONG MAGNETIC FIELDS because they don't have Event Horizons.
While the black hole paradigm has become commonplace in popular consciousness, in the last decade, noise has consistently grown about the many physical effects which can inhibit the formation of exact mathematical black holes. In The Rise and Fall of the Black Hole Paradigm, Abhas Mitra shows us how, much before these developments, he had proven why the so-called black holes must only be black hole pretenders. He identified these black hole candidates to be Magnetospheric Eternally Collapsing Objects (MECOs), and along with Darryl J. Leiter and Stanley L. Robertson, generalized them. Recent evidence for the existence of strong magnetic fields around so-called black holes may provide confirmations of his claim.
