Cruise control may seem like a simple feature, but as Ondřej Sychrovský from Škoda’s development team explains, "classic cruise control is part of the engine control unit and controls the engine to maintain a constant speed." The system can’t use the brakes, so it relies on engine braking to manage speed downhill. ⛰️ Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is more advanced. 🛣️ "It can slow down with the engine and brakes, accelerate, and in the case of an automatic transmission, it takes care of gear shifting," says Sychrovský. ACC maintains both speed and distance from the car in front using radar and cameras. Predictive ACC takes this further, using map and camera data to adjust speed for curves and speed limits. According to Sychrovský, "we want to make it more reliable, more robust, easier to use, and safer." Škoda Auto continues to outperform the overall European market in the first three quarters of 2024, delivering 671,300 vehicles worldwide, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year. 🚀 Operating profit grows to €1.7 billion, and return on sales remains robust at 8.3%. During car production, there is a lot of assembly work and installation taking place. That’s why the doors are practically the very last parts to be attached. The doors are fitted complete, with glass, trim and all their electrics. What’s interesting is that the worker uses the manipulator arm to grab the door from the inside, as though he was going to get into the car with it. He fits the doors (the rear doors first) and plugs in the electrical connectors. See how Škoda cars are made, step by step. One of the last steps on the assembly line is the fitting of the doors. 🚗 “Today, most people recognize the need to protect nature,” says Lukáš Zuzánek, an expert in sustainable material development at Škoda Auto. From material production to the recyclability of used cars, sustainability is a key aspect of our approach - we work with mono-material concepts that simplify future recycling. “A car must be at least 85% recyclable,” states Lukáš. 🔄 In our technical development, we focus on using recycled plastics and metals, which reduce the carbon footprint and conserve non-renewable resources. One notable project is "Bumper from a Bumper," where old bumpers are transformed into new ones. 🌍 Climate change, resource conservation, air quality, and compliance with environmental regulations.
