This October, we proudly celebrate Black History Month. To kick off our celebrations, our Black Lawyers Affinity Group (BLAG) hosted an inspiring evening featuring the world-famous Kingdom Choir and ballet performances by Wesley Branch and Taylor Angela. In line with the theme "Reclaiming Narratives," BLAG members Marcus Harewood, Aidan Swietochowski, and Beni Kavangama shared stories of influential Black figures. Aidan beautifully summed up the evening: "It is through compassion, love, and this communal sense of belonging that we, as Black people, will always flourish." The event highlighted the importance of community and a sense of belonging in celebrating Black culture and history. With the focus on reclaiming and sharing untold stories of Black figures to empower and inspire attendees. The evening showcased various forms of expression, from ballet to gospel music, emphasizing the importance of representation in all areas of life. “The event was a great success. The performers were of course outstanding, but what I enjoyed most was the audience participation. It was so lovely to see everyone up on their feet singing and dancing.
