We’ve got a chance to have a chat with our Frontend Tech Lead Michael Bashurov about  professional development, technical problems, human approach to work, and books. 🔺 What have been the most challenging technical problems you've had to solve in your career? I’m still working on this, but I see a lot of potential in teaching people how to debug and experiment. It might not sound like a technical problem, and it’s partly not, but it involves a significant technical aspect related to developer tooling and the efficient use of specific software development practices. Currently, I’m reading “How to Solve It” by George Polya, and I’m fascinated by how much mathematical prowess can be applied to development. 🔺 How do you keep up with your professional development and stay current with industry trends? My professional development consists of: — Reading books, from “Thinking, Fast and Slow” to “Types and Programming Languages” — Being part of a frontend community where you can trust people’s opinions more than random internet — Experimenting and learning through trial and error. 🔺What do you believe is most crucial for success in a Tech Lead role? Understanding that it’s genuinely a different role and knowing what is required from you from both an organizational and stakeholder standpoint. I recommend “Staff Engineer: Leadership Beyond the Management Track” by Will Larson. 🔺What development methodologies do you use in your team and why? For me, the key is to be mindful of what and why you’re doing things a certain way, to be aware of the trade-offs different approaches may have, and to stay informed about both established practices and new studies. I’m a fan of XP (don’t @ me) and lean/kanban styles of work, though. 🔺What qualities do you look for in new members of your frontend team? Be smart, keep learning new things, don’t be a jerk, be able to work efficiently, and be capable of creating something awesome. 🔺 How do you keep your team motivated and maintain high levels of engagement? Learn about emotional intelligence, active listening, how to give and receive feedback (and generally how to communicate with people), and remember that your colleagues are people, human beings, living beings, not just resources. I recommend reading “Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life” by Marshall Rosenberg. Oh, and don’t forget to go to therapy. BTW, guys: https://lnkd.in/dRF5yzR7

🌟 Celebrating 2 Years at Mayflower! 🌟 Today marks my second anniversary with #mayflowerwork, and it’s a perfect moment to reflect on this incredible journey. Not too long ago, I watched a video where a seasoned corporate professional was asked, “How do you know you’re in the right job?” Her words resonated deeply with me, and I realized—I’m in the right place. She said: "I feel energized by my work." "I don’t feel depressed." "My heart doesn’t race when my boss calls." "My colleagues are respectful." "It always comes down to what you value, and if that aligns with your company’s values." It struck me that burnout isn’t always about the hours we put in, but rather about a misalignment of values. So, I took the time to reflect on what I truly value: Autonomy Flexibility Accountability Kindness and respect Working for people I admire Now, after two years, I can confidently say I feel appreciated, I’m constantly learning, and I see a bright path ahead. I’m genuinely happy to be part of this team and excited for what’s to come. #WorkAnniversary #TeamAppreciation #CompanyCulture #HappyAtWork #CareerGrowth #mayflowerwork

Let’s talk about office food, shall we? We want everyone in Mayflower to live their best lives. But how can you do that constantly thinking: where to eat, what to eat, how much money you have to spend, where to find healthy options. Right? So in our office we have a canteen with free lunches and coffee points full of snacks. Let’s look at our inner kitchen, some features and cool stuff we have.  🥦 No Sugar policy. All our kitchens offer snacks without processed sugar. We also avoid over processed foods and oils, so trans fats are a big no for us. What a big yes is that for lunch we offer a variety of salad options, grilled meats, fish and vegetarian dishes  🥦 Sweet tooth, this is for you. We have Cake Thursday with delicious sugar free, gluten free, dairy free cakes made from organic and sustainably sourced ingredients  🥦 Vegan Ice cream all summer long! Yup, to add variety to our snack options, welcome the summer and make everyone chill 🥦 Our baristas prepare healthy smoothies throughout the year. The bar menu changes seasonally, but always remains as healthy as possible #seeyouontheisland

Our company employs people from all over the world. And of course, we are especially delighted to have residents from Cyprus with us — they are the ambassadors of the culture, lifestyle, and values of this amazing island. We are excited to offer them the best. This post was prepared in collaboration with Lefki Nikolaidou, our Head of Administration and a proud Cypriot. 💬 If a local asks me about the company’s environment, vibe and culture, I always answer, «What’s not to like?! The benefits are really, really good. The offices are very beautiful, the people are exceptional, the technology is cutting-edge, and the opportunities and experiences you can gain are endless» 💬 With that being said... 💥 Employees receive a benefit of 50% reimbursement for daycare expenses, so they don’t have to worry about their child’s comfort and safety. 💥 At least once a month, we have office events. We love bringing people together, mixing up teams and engaging in delightful conversations about exploring the island's beauty. 💥 Company offers free breakfast, lunch and coffee which is prepared by professional baristas all day long. We all know how important your ice coffee is in the morning! 💥 And many, many other benefits that our recruiters will tell you about, so the next step is to apply https://mayflower.work/ Image by Vectonauta on Freepik
