File talk:NASA-Apollo8-Dec24-Earthrise.jpg
The description states: "Note that this phenomenon is only visible from someone in orbit around the Moon. Because of the Moon's synchronous rotation about the Earth (i.e., the same side of the Moon is always facing the Earth), no Earthrise can be visible from the surface of the Moon." - This is either false or needs a better explanation. On the side of the moon facing the earth, both the moon itself and and the earth can be illuminated from the sun being at the side. Being in a non-illuminated part (moon-night) of the half-illuminated moon, the earth would similarly be half-illuminated. --91.44.53.79 08:50, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
The description was flawed/inaccurate re: physics (as well as re: grammar). have revised the wording. it's long, but at least it's correct & reasonably clear. open to trimming, as long as clarity & accuracy are retained. :) Lx 121 (talk) 22:07, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

[编辑]Even though the 3000x3000 pixel version is also from NASA, it's been created/edited in a way that makes it different enough from this one to merit uploading it with a different name.
I think both of these NASA versions could be improved (and have uploaded a different edit (file:NASA_Earthrise_AS08-14-2383_Apollo_8_1968-12-24.jpg) from the scan of the film magazine version), but see Commons:Overwriting existing files (the DO NOT overwrite section - Exceptions to the minor changes rule).
