Material is cropped from a magazine published by the mentioned site while permission links to a vague disclaimer (of the same site), which suggests that one could reuse the published material. But there is a problem, mentioned disclaimer unvail an "All rights reserved" license at the bottom of the page. This license is unacceptable because it isn't irrevocable. They may choose to revoke the license at any time, requiring everyone who is using the content to stop doing so. Commons requires licenses to be irrevocable. HIAS (talk) 23:08, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
- Same old GODL-India issues. cc @Yann: . —Sarvatra (talk, contribs) 07:08, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- Keep The Copyright Policy clearly applies to this image, but it is still not clear if the GODL does or not. May be it is better to have something like {{Indian Army}} until the GODL issue is resolved. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:26, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- Template:Indian Army is already nominated for deletion, with the exact same reason. HIAS (talk) 09:12, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- Comment I have no opinion on GODL-India, but the license linked from the file page and from {{Indian Army}} comes with the following requirement: "This is subject to the material being reproduced accurately and not being used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context." That's effectively a "no derivatives" restriction and incompatible with the Commons' requirements. That's why I nominated the template for deletion. Huon (talk) 09:18, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- No, this is wrong. We have had this discussion countless times. This restriction is not related to copyright, according to past discussions on this. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:48, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- Keep per the copyright policy here, which clearly says Material featured on this site may be reproduced free of charge in any format or media without requiring specific permission. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 10:01, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- Comment "Copyright © 2019 All rights reserved." is the key, mentioned at the bottom of page. HIAS (talk) 10:07, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- @HIAS: It seems you didn't even read the policy on the Indian Army website. :( Basically, images authored by the army are under the specified license. The rest of the website is ARR. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:25, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- I have seen those earlier discussions and I still believe that the confusion related to "Accurate reproduction of material" will remain unless, "we cite a proper license" or acquire clarification through proper channel (WP:OTRS), just like Template:Indian navy. HIAS (talk) 12:09, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
- I don't see the point to start the discussion here all over again. See my message on this DR. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:36, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Kept: While the (C) is misleading there is permission as pointed out by Yann. Other arms of service extend the same permission too. --Gbawden (talk) 07:01, 28 August 2019 (UTC)
