One-Third of a Nation is a Living Newspaper play produced in 1938 by the Federal Theatre Project. Written by Arthur Arent from research by the the editorial staff of the Federal Theatre Project, it focused on the problem of housing in the United States. The play was produced in New York and in nine additional cities, where it was adapted to specific community conditions. The title comes from a line in Franklin D. Roosevelt's second inaugural address: "I see one-third of a nation ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished ..."
