Joseph took a break from his studies as a PhD student in Learning Design and Technology (LTEC), and celebrated the 2025 Lunar New Year with fun, food, and a parade! 🐍 "Whenever I go here, I find I can join fun events like First Friday, get cheap fresh food, and buy my favorite smoothies!" There are some real hidden gems here in terms of food, fun, and shopping!

Whitney Aragaki (PhD in Education, Curriculum Studies) and Gregory Kent (BEd in Elementary Ed and MEd in Educational Technology) received a 2025 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest award that a science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States!
As PAEMST awardees, Aragaki and Kent receive a certificate signed by then President Joe Biden, a trip to Washington, D.C. to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Apply for the Cooke Foundation's Beautification Award!
The Cooke Foundation believes children deserve to be surrounded by beauty, and that a beautiful environment at school is conducive to learning and encourages respect for one’s school, oneself, and others. A Hawaii public or charter school may apply for a Beautification Award in recognition of work done to enhance its campus’ appearance.
Three grants of $5,000 each will be awarded, likely to an elementary, middle and high school.
