In 1971, a mix of unemployed Boeing engineers, a leaky foam gardening pad, and the dream of better nights under the stars came together to change how we experience the outdoors forever.
By 1972, Cascade Designs was formed and began selling the Therm-a-Rest Standard 3/4 – the world’s first self-inflating sleeping pad.
The rest, as they say, is history.

Product Description
Sleep like camp royalty with the ultra luxurious Therm-a-Rest MondoKing 3D Self-Inflating Foam Camping Mattress. With couples in mind, the pad can be paired with a second MondoKing for a double sleeping pad. The pad offers an R-value of 8.0 for maximum year-round comfort thanks to thick thermal foam and StrataCore construction, which uses a continuous layer of thermal foam nestled between alternating ridges of air and foam (R-value measures the material’s ability to insulate; the higher the R-value, the warmer the sleeping pad). Perfect for car camping, expedition basecamps, RVs, and boats, it also makes an excellent guest bed at home. The stable mattress offers maximum stability, cushioning, and protection from rocks, roots, and uneven ground surfaces. All styles have dual valves that allow compressible foam core to expand and inflate when unpacked, and all styles mate perfectly with other Therm-a-Rest MondoKing mattresses with a similar style. Available in three styles: Equipped with the Standard Valve with the 2018 or 2019 model, or equipped with the TwinLock Valve the sleeping pad has dedicated "in" and "out" valves to make inflating and deflating the pad easier than ever. Standard Valve models are 4.0 inches thick inflated and include a stuff sack, and TwinLock Valve models are 4.5 inches thick inflated and include a stuff sack that can also be used as a pump sack (for easier, breath-free pad inflation). Made in the USA. Manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.

One trick to consider. don't overfill it. I found it much more comfortable after I took a bit of air out of it.
The INFLATION section of the TwinLock Valve Instructions states that “The one-way IN valve will prevent air from escaping”. This is not true. While inflating with the pump sack, when you get above approximately 50 % inflation, every time you pump air in, you can hear it come right back out after you stop pumping. This makes it very difficult to fully inflate. Also, if you put light pressure on the pad with your hand, you can hear the air coming out. I have two pads that I bought at the same time and both have the same issue.
I emailed ThermaRest 9 days ago with this issue to see what they’d say, but I still haven’t heard back from them.

The reason I bought this thing is for the self-inflation. I know the last bit always takes a few pumps of the pump bag at the end, but I didn't want to have to take all the time and energy to fill it up from start to finish. That's time and energy better spent setting up the rest of camp.
I wish thermarest had been honest about this product.

It is worth noting that I wouldn’t actually classify this as self inflating. It claims you can blow it up with its bag but you have to manually blow up the bag. Regardless it took me about 10 minutes to pack up and the same to pack down which is reasonable.
