Ever wondered about the main benefits of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs)? 🌍🛰️ NTNs can overcome the limitations of traditional cellular networks, which only cover 10% of the Earth's surface. While cellular connections work well in populated areas, coverage is lacking in vast regions like deserts, oceans, and remote mountains. NTNs solve this challenge by enabling seamless global connectivity, ideal for applications such as asset tracking and remote infrastructure monitoring. 3GPP Release 17 has enabled the adoption of a standard cellular communication protocol, eliminating the need for separate hardware for cellular and satellite networks, thus reducing costs. This advancement opens new possibilities for IoT users by providing global coverage without relying on expensive proprietary satellite hardware and solutions.
