Taking time out for World Mental Health Day, we encouraged our people in Aberdeen and Uxbridge to step away from their desks for coffee, cake, and a chat with colleagues. Providing fun prompts to help get the conversation started, there was plenty of discussion around favourite breakfast cereals, go-to karaoke songs, and the most used emoji on your mobile phone!   As the saying from a famous UK advertising campaign goes, “it’s good to talk”. #WorldMentalHealthDay

Our Balzac Power Station, located in Alberta, Canada recently achieved an impressive milestone, reaching 5,000 days without a recordable incident! This means the team has now gone approximately 13.5 years without sustaining any injury that requires medical attention. This achievement is a testament to the safety culture embraced and delivered consistently by the team at Balzac. Nirav Patel, GM – Balzac Power Station, says, “This is a fantastic achievement and it’s only through the hard work and dedication of the team that we’ve reached this point. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank current and past team members for always keeping safety at the forefront of their minds.” Baoshan Lu, VP - Operations, says, “Safety milestones like this only happen when all individuals are fully dedicated to everyone going home safe after every shift. To go 5,000 days incident-free takes a lot of focus and determination on everyone’s part. The Balzac team has built a safety culture we are proud of – and we can all learn from! We will keep building on this foundation to continue to strengthen our safety management.” CNOOC is a 50% partner and operator of this 120-megawatt, natural gas-fired, combined cycle power station, which generated 319,777 megawatt hours for the Alberta electricity grid in 2023, and powers approximately 45,000 homes each year.

In an incredible display of our ‘Safety First’ cultural belief in action, our Golden Eagle team in the UK North Sea has achieved 10 years without a Lost Time Injury (LTI), a remarkable safety milestone which spans the asset’s entire operational life. Congratulations to Golden Eagle and well done to the onshore and offshore teams, including all visitors, supply chain partners and co-venture partners, past and present, that have contributed to the achievement of this incredible milestone. We are extremely proud of the commitment from our employees, contractors, and partners who work to ensure oil and gas production occurs without incident every day. Recognised across our global business operations, Mr. Liu Yongjie, Chairman of CNOOC International, congratulated the team and commended them for creating a world-class safety culture underpinned by teamwork and striving for excellence. Ryan Scott, GM – Scott and Golden Eagle Assets, commented, “The team on Golden Eagle should be incredibly proud of the safety culture they have nurtured and developed across the asset, and I thank everyone, both onshore and offshore, for their ongoing contribution to safe operations on Golden Eagle.”

Using unsolicited emails, online recruitment services such as LinkedIn, fake websites, and text messages offering the promise of job opportunities, those who conduct this type of fraud aim to obtain personal information or money. Therefore, we remind everyone to be vigilant regarding job seeking. Look out for warning signs, CNOOC International will NEVER: - Request money (e.g. for ‘visa fees’, taxes, travel expenses). - Request personal information such as passport and bank account details early in the recruitment process. - Send emails from free web-based email accounts such as Yahoo, Gmail or Live.com. - Use mobile (cell) phone numbers, rather than office numbers. - Insist on urgency to secure a job vacancy. - Use poorly formatted documentation or make significant grammar and spelling mistakes. We recommend that you do not respond to unsolicited offers of employment from people claiming to work for or be affiliated with CNOOC International. CNOOC North America recently sponsored a free Family Fun Day at the Anzac Recreation Centre in celebration of the facility’s 10-year anniversary. Members of the community were invited to enjoy family-friendly activities, including face-painting, games, fitness classes, a magic show, and more. CNOOC also sponsored a community BBQ for all attendees. Showcasing the importance of STEM based careers, we were delighted to join Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, for their International Women in Engineering Day celebration event. Meeting with pupils from local secondary schools, Victoria Allan, Mechanical Engineer for our Buzzard platform shared her career journey, explaining how a love of maths and physics has turned into an exciting engineering career in the energy sector. #INWED24
