Empowered for Empowerment

About us

CEFI, the Center for Education and Financial Inclusion, is dedicated to fostering sustainable development and social inclusion in the Donga Mantung Division and Cameroon at large. Our mission is to empower underserved youth through education, economics, health, and capacity-building initiatives, thereby ending multi-dimensional and multi-generational poverty. Our vision is to create an empowered community where every individual has access to equitable opportunities for growth and prosperity. We envision a future where education, economic empowerment, and health are accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic background, gender, or geographic location. To achieve our mission and vision, CEFI engages in a variety of activities tailored to address the specific needs of the communities we serve. These activities include: 1. Education Initiatives: We work to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all by leveraging innovative teaching methodologies, providing access to educational resources, and promoting digital literacy among students and teachers. 2. Economic Empowerment Programs: Through skill-building workshops, entrepreneurship training, and access to financial resources, we empower individuals to create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to economic growth in their communities. 3. Health Promotion Campaigns: We conduct awareness campaigns on key health issues, provide access to healthcare services, and promote healthy behaviors to improve overall community well-being. 4. Capacity-Building Workshops: We organize workshops and training sessions to enhance the skills and capacities of community members, local leaders, and grassroots organizations, enabling them to drive positive change and sustainable development. Our theory of change is grounded in the belief that by investing in education, economic empowerment, and health, we can break the cycle of poverty and create lasting change in communities. By providing individuals with the tools,

Updates

  • As we conclude week one of our back-to-school advocacy in Donga-Mantung, the harsh realities faced by children and their families have been laid bare. In Njema, under Nkambe Central, where our efforts began, we’ve seen why so many children remain out of school, and the staggering challenges those in school face amidst the ongoing crisis. Although basic education in Cameroon is officially free, families are burdened with PTA fees ranging from just $4 to $7 annually. Yet, children are still sent home for not paying these meager dues. The most heartbreaking challenges recorded include a lack of school fees, long, perilous walks to distant schools, fear of violence from armed men, and the constant threat of sexual violence for girls traveling far. As we push forward to Moh, Kungi, Binshua, Misaje, Wat, and beyond, the weight of this crisis grows heavier, but so does our resolve to fight for every child’s right to education.

Successful recruits will be part of the fourth generation of sustainable leaders, inspired by exemplary figures such as Nelson Mandela, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Malala Yousafzai, a powerful advocate for education. Participants will benefit from training by OMLA 2024 mentors from across the continent, network with like-minded youth, and engage in various community projects throughout the division. This opportunity is exclusively for residents of the Donga Mantung Division, and physical presence is required during the program's execution starting in July. Our team of five leaders is coordinating this initiative at CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND FINANCIAL INCLUSION (CEFI) . For more info send a WhatsApp message to the contact on the flyer.
