Christopher Morris
In 1993 I began study of music theory and music business at American River College in Sacramento, CA. Following a career as a metal musician, I resumed my education at Portland State University exploring my interests in history, anthropology, and eventually Nordic studies resulting in a BA in Liberal Studies. This then led me to the University of Oslo where I pursued my interests in Norwegian history and culture at the university's International Summer School. I then moved to London and earned my MA in Scandinavian Studies from UCL researching Norwegian Black Metal and its cultural impact. A second MA, this one in ethnomusicology, was earned at Goldsmiths University of London. I am now a PhD researcher at City University London pursuing interests involving gender and identity in Japanese metal. My more general interests include musicology (ethnomusicology), Japanese studies, cultural and national identity, history, cultural theory and popular culture.A nod must also be given to my secondary family of interests: ancient history, Asian history and archaeology.
