Earlier today, we had insightful discussions as part of the #GlobalGreenGrowthWeek2024 on #WasteManagement and Circular economy in #Africa! The session explored #Africa's solutions, challenges, and opportunities in the Waste Management and Circular Economy sectors. Special focus was on Rwanda's Waste to Resources project, exploring results, lessons learnt, and best practices. KEY TAKEAWAY In Rwanda, the GGGI’s Waste to Resources Project greatly contributed to addressing the challenges of increased waste resulting from rapid urbanization. By establishing facilities for waste sorting and recycling, biowaste processing, and managing the Nduba dumpsite, the project improved waste management services in the City of Kigali, contributed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and created hundreds of green jobs We also had a session with private sector actors to explore the role of the private sector in Africa in advancing circular systems and efficient waste management initiatives. KEY HIGHLIGHT The Private Sector plays a significant role in ensuring effective waste management and circular economy systems; and governments should associate them, put in place supportive systems, and incentivize investments into circular systems. The private sector must continue to innovate, and increase investments in waste management and circular economy systems. Missed it? Don't worry - rewatch and join the conversation. 🎬 Watch: https://lnkd.in/eVweJ5T4 #GlobalGreenGrowthWeek #GreenGrowth #ClimateAction Jerome Fakhry Assana Alio Juvenal Mukurarinda, CDPM® Enviroserve Rwanda Green Park Depot Kalisimbi Ltd Olivier MBERA Global Green Growth Institute Dr. Malle Fofana
