The sprawling informal settlement of Mukuru on the outskirts of #Nairobi holds powerful tales of how an innovative gas energy company is providing clean cooking solutions and restoring dignity to households in the Kenyan capital.     During a recent visit there, Solomon Adegbie-Quaynor, African Development Bank Vice President for Private Sector, Infrastructure and Industrialisation met Aurelia Aureh, one of the many women whose lives have been transformed by affordable clean cooking solutions like M-Gas. “I do not have to go to the gas vendor looking for the gas when it runs out, as M-Gas monitors my usage and replaces my gas before it runs out. In addition, it is safe. I don’t have to worry about my children playing with it because it has tight security features,” she explains.     Stories like this inspire us to intensify efforts to increase investments towards affordable #CleanCooking solutions, which is already one of our priority areas.      In May this year, the Bank pledged $2 billion over 10 years towards clean cooking solutions in Africa. Le Groupe de la Banque africaine de développement a accordé un prêt de 39,2 millions de dollars au #BurkinaFaso pour un projet innovant visant à renforcer le développement des compétences et la résilience des jeunes, en mettant l’accent sur les femmes.   Le Projet multisectoriel d’appui au développement des compétences pour la résilience sera financé par une contribution de 13,2 millions de dollars du Fonds africain de développement, le guichet de prêts à taux concessionnels du Groupe de la Banque, et de 26 millions de dollars de la Facilité d’appui à la transition, un mécanisme destiné aux États en transition. Ce projet permettra de : ➡ Créer au moins 20 000 emplois. ➡ Bénéficiera indirectement à 175 000 personnes. ➡ Fournira une formation professionnelle à 61 830 personnes touchées par la crise sécuritaire. ➡ Soutiendra 800 jeunes entrepreneurs. ➡ Financera 1 200 projets de jeunes et 2 000 entreprises dirigées par des femmes. Le projet renforcera les efforts du Burkina Faso pour réduire la vulnérabilité des jeunes en créant des emplois décents et en donnant accès aux services sociaux essentiels. African Development Bank President Praises Saudi Arabia for Billions of Dollars of Investment in Africa       The Bank chief was speaking at the Saudi Fund for Development’s 50th anniversary celebration in #Riyadh on Sunday. The Fund, he noted, translated the pulse of the Kingdom into development support in Africa.       “Its work covers 407 projects in 41 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, with support of over $5.3 billion,” he said, in his congratulatory address delivered at the event to mark the Fund's golden jubilee.      “The African Development Bank is your friend and strategic partner in Africa… I wish the Saudi Fund for Development another 50 exciting years ahead, as we partner together to support Africa with renewed dedication to accelerate Africa’s development,” Adesina concluded.
