Between his play and his magnetic personality, Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams quickly endeared himself to teammates and coaches. The team named him one of eight captains for the season Monday.

Here are their captains:

QB Caleb Williams
WR DJ Moore
TE Cole Kmet
TE Marcedes Lewis
LB T.J. Edwards
LB Tremaine Edmunds
CB Jaylon Johnson
S Kevin Byard

Bears coach Matt Eberflus typically has chosen captains based on player vote.

Williams is the only rookie in the group, which is twice as big as it was last season when Justin Fields, Eddie Jackson, Moore and Edmunds were named. He is the first rookie captain for the Bears since they offficially started naming captains in 2007.

While those are the permanent captains, it’s not clear whether all eight will go out for the coin toss every week, and the Bears typically have had a weekly captain as well. That weekly spot often is given to a player who is facing his former team that week.

The Bears open the season Sunday at home against the Titans. Byard played his first eight seasons for them.
