Recently AARP’s Senior Vice President for Global Thought Leadership Lina Walker moderated a conversation focusing on #HealthyLongevity, and an important new The World Bank report: “Unlocking the Power of Healthy Longevity: Demographic Change, Noncommunicable Diseases, and Human Capital.” The report outlines a vision for governments, companies, development institutions, and others to proactively support health aging -- particularly by reducing noncommunicable diseases like heart disease, respiratory illness, and diabetes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). It's an increasingly urgent issue, since adults over 60 are the fastest growing demographic in the world. By 2050, more than two billion people will be 60 or older -- and the vast majority will live in LMICs. That massive demographic shift will impact the finances of individuals, families, and governments, change the workplace and the marketplace, shape technological innovation, and require us to rethink health care and policy. If we act now, we have an opportunity to ensure that people in all parts of the world will thrive as they age.   AARP is thrilled to be leading the work to unlock the power of healthy longevity alongside incredible organizations like the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Pan American Health Organization, HelpAge International, The World Bank and others. The ultimate goal is to decouple well-being from environmental pressures, not GDP from carbon.” “But we must also realize we’re not all starting from the same place. High-income countries need to degrow, that’s the reduce strategy. In doing so, they will free up ecological space for other less privileged countries to build productive capacity to satisfy unmet needs and to shift toward more sustainable means of needs satisfaction. Temporary degrowth in the Global North, temporary growth in the Global South, then both meeting at a sustainable state.” “So in the end, my message is this: the story of decoupling is reassuring. It’s a story of don’t worry, everything is fine, it’s an “everything is going to be okay” kind of thing to say. In the meantime, we are merely tinkering with a system that should be radically transformed. The fact is: Rich countries today still look like seesaws. When GDP goes up, nature goes down. The real question is: Which one do you really want to save?”

What an inspiring first day at the #WorldCancerCongress in Geneva! 🌍    We had the privilege of launching our new report Uniting for Equity in Cancer Control: Success Stories Across Diverse Communities at a session where we discussed one of the most crucial challenges – inequities in cancer control. The fight against cancer is not just about scientific advancements, but also about ensuring that no one is left behind. The diversity of experiences and solutions shared today was a powerful reminder that learning from each other is crucial for advancements in challenging the inequities we face.    From increasing screening uptake within the LGBTIQ+ community in the UK, to reaching physically disabled women in Egypt, to improving cancer care for Indigenous patients in New Zealand or how to reach out to previously hard to reach communities in the USA – we learned so much from each other. These case studies highlight that what works in one part of the world can be adapted and applied elsewhere, and through sharing our knowledge and resources, we can make a real difference globally.    Cancer affects us all, no matter our background or beliefs. Our efforts must therefore be collective if we want to achieve progress. Through exchange of perspectives, we can build on each other's successes, and work towards closing the gaps in cancer control.    Let us continue to collaborate, innovate, and inspire each other. The quantum of investment needed to support critical #development and #climate priorities is massive and requires innovative solutions. Enter #blendedfinance – an approach that leverages public, #philanthropic, and private capital to achieve sustainable development and climate goals. How does it work? Blended finance de-risks projects for private investors, making it more attractive to invest in high-impact sectors like renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and resilient infrastructure. By combining different sources of capital, blended finance can mobilize significantly larger amounts of funding, driving transformative projects that might otherwise be underfunded. Get this: climate blended financing totals increased by 107%, from $5.6 billion in 2022 to $11.6 billion in 2023, with 48% of 2023 climate blended finance deals exceeding $100 million. For every dollar of public or philanthropic funding, blended finance attracts up to $4 of private investment. And the impact is huge: blended finance initiatives have contributed to providing clean energy to over 30 million people and improving agricultural productivity for 10 million smallholder farmers. This is why I am thrilled to join the Investment Committee for the SDG Impact Finance Initiative facilitated by Convergence Blended Finance for their third Innovation Window focused on awarding grant funding for feasibility studies, proof of concept activities and solutions addressing SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-Being), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). In some societies through their internalized routine cultural practices and relationship, both men and women label women body, actions, feeling and behaviour as lesser or trivial, less important and inexpensive on the contrary that of men as decisive, hero, most quality and superior. There are a number of saying that keep women position down in daily actions or labelling women saying to men he “eats like women, speaks like women, drinks like women, goes like women and so on. On the other hand, people have contradictory perceptions about the women positions sometimes saying women are “cruel compared to men” and sometimes say “women are cowards, while appreciating men are heroes and kind” compared to women. Even when they listen and respond to what women and men do is different with this notion, whether it to what women formally do at management and leadership positions or in the household on domestic work and child care and caring for the sick person.

Reflecting on a Transformative Session: Sculpting Sustainable Change Today, I had the privilege of co-organizing the "Sculpting Sustainable Change: Philanthropy at the Nexus of Arts and the Environment" event at the Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association #PhileaForum2024 This session was a collaborative effort by the Arts and Culture Funders Forum, European Environmental Funders Group (EEFG), and European Philanthropy Coalition for Climate (Climate Coalition). The event underscored the intersection of arts, culture, and environmental sustainability. We explored how cultural expressions and artistic insights can dramatically amplify the urgency of our ecological crises, offering new perspectives and innovative solutions. Key insights included: ➡️ Artists and cultural professionals are vital in advocating for climate justice and cultural rights. ➡️ Strategies for decarbonizing the cultural sector and enhancing its resilience. ➡️ The power of collaborative projects that bring together artists, environmentalists, and philanthropists to drive public engagement and awareness. Projected results (exit polls) - 2nd round of the French legislative elections: Victory of the Nouveau Front Populaire, the new left-wing coalition formed hurriedly under a month ago. Big loss of seats for Macron's Ensemble coalition, but managed to come in 2nd with somewhere around 160 seats. Le Pen and Bardella's Rassemblement National (RN) comes 3rd, with a big increase in number of seats (they had 89). While what will happen next is still very much uncertain, and although Le Pen's Rassemblement National won in the European elections and the 1st round of these legislative elections, many of us will be relieved that in the end France will not have a RN government with Jordan Bardella as PM. #France #Politics #PoliticalScience #Europe #NouveauFrontPopulaire #Ensemble
