🔎 2024 in Review! This year, WILPF drove meaningful change through collective action and bold advocacy. Our highlights include: ➡️ Advocacy for accountability in the ongoing genocide in Palestine. ➡️ Feminist leadership at key global events like HRC55, CSW, and COP29. ➡️ Celebrating 109 years of WILPF and 10 years of WILPF Cameroon’s transformative work. ➡️ Driving feminist solutions to the climate crisis and amplifying voices of resilience through our Beyond Borders event. As we wrap up 2024, we’ll be stepping away from social media for a few weeks to reflect and recharge. Stay tuned for our return in 2025, ready to continue building feminist peace and justice together. In the meantime, (re)discover the milestones that shaped our year: https://lnkd.in/deJhmrUv #FeministLeadership #Peacebuilding #WILPF

We address the root causes of violence through a feminist lens.
Info
The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) with National Sections covering every continent, an International Secretariat based in Geneva, and a New York office focused on the work of the United Nations. Since our establishment in 1915, we have brought together women from around the world who are united in working for peace by non-violent means and promoting political, economic and social justice for all. WILPF’s mission is to end and prevent war, ensure that women are represented at all levels in the peace-building process, defend the human rights of women, and promote social, economic and political justice. To achieve this mission, WILPF conducts programs in three areas: Disarmament, Human Rights, and Women, Peace and Security. The WILPF International Secretariat works alongside our global network of sections, conducting peace-building activities at every level, from the grassroots to the highest decision-making bodies at the United Nations. WILPF envisions a world free from violence and armed conflict in which human rights are protected and women and men are equally empowered and involved in positions of leadership at the local, national and international levels.

🎙 A new episode from our podcast #MobilisingMenforFeministPeace is out! In the episode titled “Hate Speech and Online Violence: How the internet fuels killings, conflict and polarisation”, we explore how the internet exacerbates societal polarisation and online violence - from the rise of #clickbait and conspiracy theories to the amplification of hate speech. We hear from Rasha Abdul Rahim, Interim Executive Director of People vs Big Tech, and Odanga Madung, co-founder of Odipo Dev, on why profit often outweighs public safety when it comes to #bigtech companies, how women and people of colour are disproportionately impacted by online hate, and the urgent action needed to address online violence. 💡In this clip, Rasha Abdul Rahim tells us that we need international power to rein in the power of big tech when it comes to regulation. 🦻 Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/d_gMyw-R

📑 With murder rates in Africa predicted to increase, Silencing the Guns Activism Guide launched to support activists. The African Union #SilencingtheGuns in #Africa Activism Guide, developed by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom's Mobilising Men for Feminist Peace Initiative and Gun Free South Africa, is a resource for activists to help silence the guns across the continent. Containing comprehensive data on gun proliferation and its impacts and in-depth analysis of the interconnected factors driving violence, the Guide includes over 40 strategic Ideas for Action that empower activists to: ⚪Conduct critical research ⚪Raise public awareness ⚪Develop targeted advocacy strategies ⚪Lobby for meaningful policy interventions By bridging the gap between research, activism, and policy engagement, the Guide recognises that peace across Africa cannot be achieved through top-down government approaches alone, but requires meaningful engagement and participation, including critique, from grassroots communities and civil society actors. Speaking at the launch, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the AU High Representative for Silencing the Guns noted that “the guide elaborates on the concept of deep preferences, which accordingly helps us understand that while a young man can choose whether to act violently or to get or use a gun, his choice is shaped by bigger factors or structural drivers such as poverty, unemployment, chronic hunger, persistent inequality, and the effects of climate change. Addressing these root causes will help reduce conflicts, thereby silencing the guns.” 🖇️ To read the guide, look at our full statement and watch the webinar, click here: https://shorturl.at/8IGBs
