Today, the first Steel Standards Principles Annual Meeting since its launch at COP28 successfully concluded. It was a pleasure to co-host this gathering with the WTO and World Steel Association (worldsteel) in the beautiful setting of Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland. Leaders from the endorsing organizations and partners came together to take stock of progress and co-develop pathways on the road to COP29 and beyond. Over the course of two days, we facilitated sessions on decarbonising the steel industry, with a focus on interoperability, data and emissions, and building a shared narrative for the future of green steel. Thomas W. Crowther, Professor of Ecology at ETH, Founder of Restor, and Villars Institute Board Member, also delivered an inspiring talk on his mission to restore planetary health and ecosystem resilience and what it takes to lead systems change. Thank you to all who took part, and we look forward to continuing our work together on this ambitious initiative. #ThinkFeelAct

To thrive and prosper within planetary boundaries requires innovative approaches, collective efforts and levers to enable systemic change The work of the ISO - International Organization for Standardization plays a critical role in this effort. But how can we ensure that standards truly reflect the needs and aspirations of everyone, including young people? This was the question that young people, #Villars Fellows from Colegio Los Nogales and ISO members delved into at the ISO’s Annual Meeting in Cartagena, Colombia. We are thrilled to be partnering with the ISO - International Organization for Standardization on accelerating progress toward a healthier planet through #intergenerational collaboration. A blueprint for the future! A special thank you to our Talent Partner Colegio Los Nogales , Camilo Camargo, Daniel Castañeda and Villars Fellows who were part of this inaugural event. Our thanks also to Silvio Dulinsky, Noelia Garcia Nebra and Maria Lazarte

What's your theory of change for transforming today’s world into a more sustainable world going forward? Enabling the systemic change needed to shift the business community toward sustainable practices requires leveraging structures like the global trade system, as Dan Esty explains: This week in Villars, in collaboration with the World Trade Organization and the World Steel Association (worldsteel), we are convening over 40 leaders from endorsing organizations of the Steel Standards Principles launched at COP28. This ambitious initiative aims to co-develop common emissions measurements that will accelerate the steel sector’s transition to near-zero and drive transformative change. #wto #steelstandardsprinciples #danesty #intergenerationalcooperation #netzero
