🌟 Collaborating for Progress: A Milestone for DYN-MARS 🌟 I’d like to say “THANK YOU!” to everyone in the DYN-MARS consortium, with special recognition to the Advisory Board members and stakeholders who joined us for our first DYN-MARS stakeholder workshop on 10th September. Your participation and insights have been invaluable! A special shout-out to the air traffic controllers and pilots who took part in our virtual workshop on 27th August. Your perspectives from the field are crucial to refining our research and developing meaningful solutions. 🛫👨✈️👩✈️ We intentionally ran this first stakeholder consultation workshop ahead of our exercises to ensure that our concepts and methodology were sound. The workshop successfully presented the methodology, concept, and approach to be used in DYN-MARS. Stakeholder feedback was invaluable, not only in refining these elements but also in generating ideas for incentivising further development and implementation of the concepts identified to minimise environmental impact in the Terminal Manoeuvring Area (TMA). We thank the participants for their active engagement before and during the workshop, which allowed us to modify and fine-tune our approach. Several insightful comments were made about additional aspects where the DYN-MARS solution could have a positive impact, providing exciting opportunities for further exploration. At its core, DYN-MARS – Dynamic Management of Aircraft and Configuration and Route Structures – is about finding the sweet spot between fuel and noise optimisation, and we’re well on our way to achieving that balance. Mit dem Einzug des UZH Space Hub der Universität Zürich in die Halle 4 bietet sich die Chance zum Aufbau eines einzigartigen Weltraum-Ökosystems. Der enge Austausch zwischen Hochschulen und Praxispartnern, zwischen Expertinnen und Experten aus unterschiedlichsten Bereichen macht die Startbahn frei für wegweisende Innovationen. «Hier entsteht sozusagen ein Cape Canaveral für Startup-Unternehmen», so Silvia Steiner. Weltraumforschung ist keine abgehobene Forschung, sondern liefert beispielsweise im Bereich der Ökologie oder der Medizin schon heute wichtige Erkenntnisse. Damit trägt der UZH Space Hub massgeblich zur Standortattraktivität des Grossraums Zürich bei. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳! STEPLESS project stands for Stepless High-Lift Configurations for Optimised Aircraft Energy Management in the TMA. This Horizon Europe initiative, under the Digital European Sky framework of the SESAR Joint Undertaking, aims to minimize the environmental footprint during final approach operations with both conventional and increased glideslope angles (IGS). The partners of STEPLESS gathered on the 4th of September 2024 at the premises of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Braunschweig, Germany to officially kick off the project which started on the 1st of September. The meeting was an opportunity for the partners to define the initial steps of the project work and to clarify the interrelations between the different tasks and activities. The SESAR Joint Undertaking Programme Manager Stella Saldana joined the meeting in Braunschweig and insured the good understanding of the overall framework and procedures for the implementation of the project. We are pleased to update you on the Horizon Europe SESAR DYN-MARS project to optimize aircraft energy management during descent and approach 🛬. Our goal is to reduce fuel consumption ⛽️ and minimize noise emissions 🎶. A truly multidisciplinary collaboration between research organizations: German Aerospace Center (DLR), NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre , Empa, Swiss SkyLab Foundation industry: Thales Aerospace, Air Navigation Service Providers: EUROCONTROL, NATS, and Airlines: Swiss International Air Lines. The aim of the project is the dynamic application of closed-path approach clearances, optimised tactical speed interventions by air traffic control and thus improved aircraft energy dissipation supported by new FMS functionalities such as the calculation of the best time to extend flaps and landing gear. Project funded by SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking and State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI.
