Valley partner Upgrain has inaugurated Europe’s largest upcycling facility — right here in Switzerland! 🎉 🇨🇭Last week upgrain, together with their strategic partner Brauerei Locher AG, celebrated the grand opening of Europe’s largest food upcycling facility in Appenzell. 🔃 The new facility will enable the team to upcycle byproducts from breweries into high-quality, nutritious ingredients — helping to create a circular economy 👏 🤩 Every year, the facility will transform 25,000 tonnes of spent grain into valuable protein and fibre ingredients. 🎤 Commenting on the development, Upgrain CEO Vincent Vida said: "We aim to establish spent grain as a valuable resource in global food production, making a positive contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions and conserving our natural resources. Thanks to the industrial scalability of our upcycling technology, our facility can be immediately implemented anywhere in the world." Valley partner revyve has opened their first commercial production plant 🎉🚀 🤩 The plant in Dinteloord has the capacity to produce 300 tonnes of yeast protein annually - an output equivalent to that of 80,000 laying hens! 🏭 To celebrate this milestone, the team invited partners, customers, investors and policymakers to take a tour of the facility. 👨🍳 Attendees were treated to an unforgettable eight-course culinary experience led by renowned chef Wim Ballieu, showcasing the versatility of revyve's ingredients — from plant-based meatballs and a mushroom burger to a cinnamon roll and a classic pesto sauce with a twist. 🌍 revyve is now ready to supply food manufacturers across Europe, North America, and beyond with clean-label, animal-free functional ingredients! Valley partner Planted will open another production site to meet growing European demand 🇪🇺🎉 🥩🔥 The new state-of-the-art site in Stadt Memmingen in southern Germany will respond to 'unprecedented demand' for their recently launched planted.steak. 🚀 Opening in early 2025, the site will produce over 20 tonnes of plant-based meat daily in the medium term and set a new standard in green technology by using only renewable sources 👏👏👏 🎤 Commenting on the development, Planted Co-founder Lukas Böni said: “We are proud to be one of the few innovators of plant-based meat who covers as many steps as possible in the value chain - from research and development to industrial production. ⭐️ Exciting news ⭐️ FAO and SFNV have strengthened their partnership to foster innovation in agrifood systems 🤝🚀 ✍️ On Friday, the FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, the President of the SFNV Steering Committee Marie-France Tschudin and CEO Christina Senn-Jakobsen signed a Letter of Intent to create mechanisms to develop solutions that address the root causes of agrifood systems challenges. The collaboration will focus on four key areas: 💡Identifying, developing and refining innovative solutions 🍎 Addressing healthy diets and nutrition and tackling food loss and waste. 🇨🇭 Drawing on Switzerland's strengths in science, technology, innovation business and sustainability to cultivate scalable solutions 🌍 Promoting inclusivity through solutions that can be implemented in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. The Letter was signed at Valley partner Agropôle Switzerland, where Qu Dongyu, the FAO delegation and colleagues from Switzerland’s Bundesamt für Landwirtschaft BLW chatted to fellow Valley partners CleanGreens Solutions SA, Vivent Biosignals and Ecorobotix and experienced their innovative solutions first-hand.
