We rebuild coral reefs. Sustainably. Scientifically. With artistic vision. Our innovative, modular structures are designed to restore and promote reef life and serve as coastal protection barriers. Our reefs recreate the lost 3D-framework of a damaged reef, restoring reef ecosystem services such as fish stocks, tourism, biodiversity, and coastal protection. We achieve this goal by combining artistic vision with scientific rigor, and the newest 3D printing technologies.

We have a new team of reef builders!!! Bringing together the right people with the correct skill sets in the field is key to the success of our projects 😃 Marie Griesmar, Mauro Bischoff, Hanna Kuhfuss and Gerrit Nanninga delivered the first rrreefs workshop in the Philippines on our latest trip to the country, this August. The students from Davao Oriental State University and partners from Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation completed a 10-day course where they learnt a variety of skills and techniques needed to build a rrreefs reef. Participants were taken through the theory behind building a reef in the classroom, combined with the practical skills needed to build in the ocean. The first lesson for the team was to understand how our modular system is constructed. This was done by following a detailed set of diagrams to stack the nauplius, mini bricks and clamps together to form a mini reef. They went on to create their own reef design by applying the skills they had learnt that day 🧱🪸 The following days were spent on the beach building scaled-up reefs using the actual components and tools needed to build in the ocean. This was a great way for the group to understand the weight and size of the modules and how all the parts fit together. To keep our heads fresh during the heat, we also trained in the ocean. The team learnt about site selection and how to map out the area, measuring the designated site and marking the perimeter using pegs and testing the substrate of the seabed was suitable for anchoring. Our final lesson involved the co-ordination of lowering the nauplius from the boat to the seabed and laying them together to create a foundation. This completed the course and rounded off a great 10 days together. Building strong relationships with our partners is at the heart of everything we do at #rrreefs and we would like to extend our thanks to everyone who took part in the workshop 🫶 📷 Marc Zumbach #coralreef #coralreefrestoration #marineconservation #oceandecade #SDG14 #biodiversity #climateaction

Thank you Vita Bad AG and Info Aqua for your great support. We are so excited about the positive results in the Philippines! #coralreefs #ESG #biodiversity #MarineConservation #rrreefs

Have you ever wondered how corals grow? 🪸 These are the 4 stages of coral development: 🪸 Coral larva Corals start off as larvae. They can be transported for several kilometers by the ocean current before settling somewhere they can grow. 🪸 Coral polyp Once the coral larva has settled, it turns into a coral polyp within a day. The polyp feeds and clones itself in order to become larger. A coral is basically a huge colony of polyps! 🪸 Baby coral A baby or juvenile coral is the last stage before a coral reaches maturity. It is not yet capable to reproduce but it keeps on growing. 🪸 Adult coral It takes many years for a coral to become mature. When it has reached maturity, it releases sperms and eggs once a year, that will fertilize or be fertilized in order to create new coral larvae. Raising awareness through art, a #SpermWhale “strands” in Zurich 🐋 On Monday morning, #Zurich became the unexpected site of a thought-provoking event, a realistic, 15-meter-long sperm whale “stranded” in the heart of the city. This powerful art installation, created by the Captain Boomer Collective in collaboration with KYMA sea conservation & research and Zürcher Theater Spektakel has successfully drawn in crowds and sparked meaningful discussions about #marineconservation. We’re particularly impressed by how the performers stay in character, providing an authentic simulation of a scientific response to a stranded whale. This immersive experience not only educates the public on the threats marine life faces but also highlights the urgent need for action. Every year, countless whales and #dolphins strand on beaches worldwide, often as a direct result of human impact on #marineecosystems. Noise pollution, plastic waste, and #climatechange are just a few of the dangers threatening these majestic creatures. Initiatives like this one are vital in bringing attention to the importance of marine conservation. At rrreefs, we are committed to restoring marine habitats and protecting the #biodiversity of our oceans. Together, we can make a difference. #rrreefs #OceanAwareness

We are looking for a new office in #Zurich 👀 As our team continues to grow, we’re on the lookout for a space starting in October 2024. Ideally, we're searching for around 40m² or above to accommodate all our reef-building dreams. If you have an ocean-view office (okay, maybe a city-view will do!), or know of a great space to share, we’d love to connect! We're happy to share our office with like-minded companies because who doesn't love a good coral chat over coffee? ☕️🐠🪸 Please send us a DM with any potential opportunities 😀 rrreefs #rrreefs #OfficeHunting #officespace #GrowingTeam #zurichoffice #coralreefs

At rrreefs, our goal is to create resilient and durable reef structures that can endure the increasing frequency of extreme weather events. To achieve this, we rely on a solid foundation. We have designed the Nauplius modules that are compatible with the clay bricks of our reef structures. Our Nauplius modules not only anchor reef structures securely but also enhance their stability, ensuring they withstand ocean currents and environmental challenges 🌊🧱 Our partnership with Holcim and the use of their #ECOPlanet cement for our Nauplius modules in Mati, Davao Oriental, serves as a solid base for the development of our #coralreef 🪸🐠 Check out the full story: https://lnkd.in/e8HUu4hx #rrreefs #CoralReefRestoration #MarineConservation #SustainableOceans #Holcim #biodiversity #climateaction #SDG14 Holcim Philippines Inc.

We are thrilled to share a remarkable milestone in our reef restoration efforts: Just five months after the installation of our reef in Pujada Bay, the Philippines, we discovered prolific coral recruitment on our bricks! 🧱🪸 Our team conducted visual and photographic monitoring, and found that a lot of the bricks had more than one coral recruit on them. Some of the corals are already big enough to see with the naked eye. 🤿👀 This remarkable finding demonstrates the success of our innovative approach. Baby corals are one of the best indicators that our artificial reef is fulfilling its intended function. We look forward to seeing these corals grow and contribute to the biodiversity of the local reef ecosystem. 🪸🐠 rrreefs Davao Oriental State University CCEF Philippines #rrreefs #coralreef #oceandecade #marineconservation #SDG14 #biodiversity #climateaction

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗳𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲? 💰 In our latest interview with UBS we discuss how rebuilding coral reefs can unlock financial investments. Coral reefs provide homes, food, and coastal protection for animals and humans. They support fisheries and generate income from tourism. The United Nations estimates that the services of coral reefs are worth hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Our goal for this year is to develop a first prototype of a transparently measured #biodiversity unit for coral reefs to foster nature-positive investments. 👉 Check out the full interview with rrreefs co-founder Josephine Graf here: https://lnkd.in/gZgxS3A7 #rrreefs #SDG14 #nature #finance #sustainability #sustainablefinance #coralreefs #ocean #startup #business
