Pictet is proud to announce that a research paper titled “Biodiversity impact assessment for finance” co-authored by senior environmental economist and ReGeneration investment manager Viktoras Kulionis, PhD, has been published in the Journal of Industrial Ecology. The paper combines the latest scientific insights and databases to estimate impact of investments on biodiversity, recognizing that the same activity conducted in different regions of the world can have varying effects on biodiversity loss. The insights from the model are integrated into the investment process of our ReGeneration strategy to inform stock selection. From pioneering the application of the Planetary Boundaries framework over a decade ago to developing the biodiversity impact model over the past years, our ambition is to continue performing high-quality in-house research and modelling that keeps us at the forefront of thematic impact equity investing. How can investors position their portfolios for the sustainable transition? Our Positive Change team share their distinctive approach. One of their convictions is that by solely investing in sustainability leaders we miss out on a chance to engage with the laggards: "Industrial firms, mining companies and utilities have large environmental footprints, they are all essential to net zero. Excluding such companies from portfolios on principle means denying both their potential contribution to the transition and their capacity to reduce their own environmental impact," says senior investment manager Evgenia Moltova #netzero #cleanenergytransition #impact
