🔎 Urgent Update for vCenter Server and VMware Cloud Foundation Broadcom has addressed one critical (CVE-2024-38812, CVSS 9.8) and one important (CVE-2024-38813, CVSS 7.5) vulnerability in their products, which allow for arbitrary code execution and privilege escalation on vCenter servers. The attack can be executed over the network without authentication, so updates are urgent. https://lnkd.in/gvTn-kqP Broadcom emphasizes in their FAQ (https://lnkd.in/drjYDsd7) that critical updates are available even to customers with expired support contracts. The company didn't suggest any mitigations—those might be possible in some organizations, but the only sure bet is to update. #news #patches #cybersecurity #vmware

Earlier, we reported nearly 10 million stealer infections detected in 2023 by our Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence service. Based on previous years' data, we forecasted almost 16 million infections, and within just 6 months of 2024, we've already reached 93.34% of this prediction. This trend suggests that the total number of detected infections could exceed 17 million by the end of 2024. Learn more https://kas.pr/j5ms

The passphrase trap Modern password policies often prioritize password length, sometimes making it the sole requirement for password content. Indeed, brute-forcing a 20-character password is challenging even with today's technology. However, it’s crucial not to use well-known word sequences as passwords. Even if you think you got this idea first and no one else remembers your phrase of choice, it’s highly likely that it has already appeared in the billions of leaked passwords, meaning hackers will certainly try it. Two examples in English: "to be, or not to be" from Shakespeare and "correct horse battery staple" from the famous xkcd comic (https://xkcd.com/936/) appear in leaks 4,171 and 366 times, respectively. Conclusion for users: If you create a long password yourself, check its uniqueness, meaning its absence in leaks. Good password managers do this automatically. https://lnkd.in/dzfNg9i Conclusion for IT security teams: When users create new passwords, password strength validation should include checking for uniqueness against leak databases. #tips
