📣 IPCC calls for nominations of authors for 2027 Methodology Report on Inventories for Short-lived Climate Forcers, for release in the second half of 2027. “This Methodology Report will underpin renewed efforts to better equip all governments in the world to estimate high-quality emission data on short-lived climate forcers not covered in recently published IPCC Guidelines,” said Taskforce on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Co-Chair Takeshi Enoki. The IPCC also seeks a balance of men and women, as well as between those experienced with working on IPCC reports and those new to the process, including younger scientists. "Bringing together diverse voices, expertise, and regional perspectives is crucial to producing a globally relevant and well-informed report," said Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories Co-Chair Dr. Mazhar Hayat. If you’re interested in volunteering your time and expertise, contact your Focal Point or Observer organization. More details can be found here 🔗 https://bit.ly/PRCSLCF Deadline for nominations is 13 September 2024 (midnight CEST). #GlobalGoals #ClimateReport

The IPCC is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.
Info
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. In the same year, the UN General Assembly endorsed the action by WMO and UNEP in jointly establishing the IPCC. The IPCC is a scientific body. It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or parameters. Thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis. Review is an essential part of the IPCC process, to ensure an objective and complete assessment of current information. IPCC aims to reflect a range of views and expertise. The Secretariat coordinates all the IPCC work and liaises with Governments. It is supported by WMO and UNEP and hosted at WMO headquarters in Geneva.

🌎 This #WorldCleanAirDay is about investing in #CleanAirNow. IPCC's 2021 #ClimateReport shows that #ClimateChange & #AirQuality are intimately linked. Many of the human activities that produce long-lived greenhouse gases also emit air pollutants, and many of these air pollutants are also ‘short-lived climate forcers’ that affect the climate. #Webinar | 17 September 2024 Join IPCC Chair Jim Skea and IPBES Chair David Obura for the kick-off of a new series of events by SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute on how nature and climate strategies can help meet #GlobalGoals. 🕑 14:00 - 15:30 CEST 📍 Online 🔗 Register now: https://buff.ly/4dXwrZf
🌐 SEI launches a new nature and climate event series, featuring keynotes from the Chairs of the IPCC and IPBES. In the next four months, three major ‘COPs,’ where countries negotiate and declare plans for the future, will occur: for biodiversity, (UN Biodiversity COP16), climate (UN Climate Change COP29) and desertification (UN Convention to Combat Desertification COP16). Ahead of these important conferences, this new event series will present integrated insights and tools on nature and climate, designed to support regional and international efforts. Join the global launch and hear from: • Prof. Jim Skea, IPCC Chair • Dr. David Obura, IPBES, Chair and Founding Director, CORDIO East Africa • SEI’s Research Director & Deputy Director Åsa Persson, alongside other global experts from our institute. 📆 17 September 2024 🕑 14:00 - 15:30 CEST 📍 Online 🔗 Register here: https://buff.ly/4dXwrZf #Nature #Climate #Biodiversity #ClimateChange #RaceToResilience #ResilientSocieties #SustainableFuture #UNCBD #COP16 #UNFCCC #COP29 #Desertification #UNCCD

👁🗨 What are short-lived climate forcers and how do they affect the climate? Short-lived climate forcers (SLCFs) are compounds such as aerosols that warm or cool the Earth’s climate over shorter time scales from days to years. SLCFs affect climate and are, in most cases, also air pollutants. Their effects on the climate are different from one region to another and can change rapidly in response to changes in SLCF emissions. 🔗 https://bit.ly/WG1SL6 If you're an expert on SLCFs, IPCC is currently calling for nominations of authors for 2027 Methodology Report on Inventories for Short-lived Climate Forcers, scheduled for release in the second half 2027. 🔗 More details about applying to be nominated can be found here: https://bit.ly/PRCSLCF
