Info
Established in 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. It takes action in response to emergencies and promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. The Red Cross and Red Crescent International Conference has concluded today with the endorsement of five key resolutions, aimed at advancing humanitarian solutions to global challenges. This apolitical forum, held every four years, has historically driven significant humanitarian progress, including the shaping of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, the global campaign to ban landmines, and initiatives for pandemic preparedness.

Mirjana Spoljaric, president of ICRC, and Kate Forbes, president of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, spoke yesterday on day 2 of the conference reaffirming the vital role of our fundamental humanitarian principles. ⬇️ #RCRC24 http://ms.spr.ly/6044WuXYo "#Humanity is the overarching fundamental principle of the Movement. It is also the core of #IHL under the Geneva Conventions. Even your enemy must be treated with humanity. A human life is a human life, no matter on which side of the line it is standing". “Now let me come to #neutrality, because neutrality is our license to operate…If we were asked to take sides, if we were asked to change or reinterpret the principle of neutrality, our work will become impossible".
