🌎🚀 Houston, we have a solution – or rather, five of them! Earlier this week, the #ClimateCollider cohort arrived in Texas to connect with other founders working on global solutions to #climatechange in the #EnergyCapitaloftheWorld. Here’s what they’ve been up to: Over the last few days, the five #SwissStartups have been getting to know their Houston-based peers at Greentown Labs, Ion Houston, and during a lunch with local founders organized by #Swissnex and #EnergyUnderground, a group of professionals in the Greater Houston area that are accelerating the #energytransition. Earlier in the week, members of the cohort attended #CERAWeek, where they brought a Swiss #climatetech perspective to the world’s premier energy conference. Throughout the week they’ve also heard from experts on the US energy market, corporate partnerships, and fundraising. Meet Rajiv Singhal, founder of Grensol Group, one of the #Swissstartups participating in #ClimateCollider, the startup exchange program powered by #Swissnex and Innosuisse. 30 million end-of-life cars are shredded each year. While the metal components can be recycled, the other 20% – mixed plastics and contaminated hydrocarbon waste – usually ends up incinerated or in landfills. Grensol uses #photolysis technology developed at EPFL to close the loop on these materials, converting the waste into #zeroemission #hydrogen and that can aid in the #energytransition, as well as precursors for new plastic production. For each ton of material Grensol processes, the #hydrogen and #recycled materials they produce can reduce #CO2 emissions by 6.4 tons – and if applied to other sources of waste like electronics, demolition waste, and mixed landfill plastics, their technology could cut over 500 megatons of emissions per year.
