It was inspiring to feel the passion and dedication of our colleagues in Suzano, our largest site in Brazil, which is such a great place as a destination, as an investment and as a place for doing business. The Suzano site stands out as a role model for sustainable industrial operations. In addition to using green electricity, the site generates steam for our reactors from biomethane. I was also impressed by the digitalized operations, the application development and catalyst labs, and the MPP plant, all demonstrating our team’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. A personal highlight was meeting the students from “The Music Won” project, a 15-year partnership between the Clariant Foundation and the Bachiana Foundation. This program has impacted hundreds of children in the Suzano community, with 83 current students and several alumni now playing in professional orchestras. This goes beyond music, creating life-changing opportunities, and I was moved by the childrens’ passion and dedication. A big thank you to our colleagues in Brazil for fostering this culture of engagement, innovation, and sustainability. Meet Katie Benjamin-van der Velde, our Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist who recently competed in the #IronMan World Championship in France. Tackling 3.8 km of open water swimming 🏊♀️, 180 km of cycling 🚵♀️, and a 42 km marathon 🏃♀️, Katie not only pushed her physical limits but also gained valuable lessons she brings to work. 💼 "𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘬𝘦𝘺 - 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯 𝘐𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬. Visiting Brazil has always been a positive and energizing experience for me. The energy, creativity, and enthusiasm of our Brazilian colleagues are truly contagious! I had a great visit to our site in São Paulo, meeting over thirty of our top customers. We discussed Brazil’s leadership in the #ChemicalIndustry’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. Already 70% of the country's electricity is coming from green sources – 50% from hydro and 20% from solar or wind. Brazil is also a recognized global leader in the #bioeconomy. Bio-ethanol is not only used as car fuel but already as a building block for carbon-neutral or even carbon-negative chemicals. Additionally, with 40% of the world’s biodiversity, Brazil offers unique opportunities for #PersonalCare and cosmetics ingredients. Brazil is a key market for Clariant. Our history there dates back to the 1950s when the Hoechst plant was established in Suzano. Today, we have over 800 colleagues across six sites in Brazil. Recent investments include the acquisition of Beraca Ingredientes Naturais, known for natural cosmetic ingredients, a new application development lab in Suzano, and a competence center for mining tailings treatment in Belo Horizonte. Our #Clariant Innovation Center (CIC) in Frankfurt hosted a sustainability breakfast with key members of the Global Impact Coalition (GIC), including Kordsa and LyondellBasell. The event, led by Richard Haldimann, explored collaborative strategies to drive innovation, promote circularity, and work toward net-zero emissions in the #ChemicalIndustry. A major highlight was the #PyrolysisOil upgrade project, which aims to boost #ChemicalRecycling and create circular polyolefin feedstock. The discussion emphasized the importance of regulatory support, funding, and collaboration to scale up sustainable solutions.
