"We are thrilled to welcome such an inspiring group of entrepreneurs at Bühler. Collaborating with start-ups exposes us to entrepreneurial young minds, fresh ideas, and emerging technologies, pushing us out of our comfort zones and breaking traditional silos,” says our CEO Stefan Scheiber about the MassChallenge Switzerland Accelerator Program hosted at our CUBIC Innovation Campus. The 80 early-stage start-ups selected for the 2024 MassChallenge Switzerland come from 37 countries, spanning five continents, and have all committed to sustainability, pitching innovations in food and agriculture, industry and climate, health, nature solutions, and packaging. Their innovations are diverse, ranging from combining AI with chemistry to reduce environmental impact in animal farming, risk analytics for biodiversity, robots that harvest and de-leaf plants in high-tech greenhouses, technologies that reduce fermentation time, and biobased materials to substitute plastic in packaging, to ingredients made from microalgae to replace additives (E-numbers). Exciting news – today 120 start-ups from MassChallenge Switzerland gain access to the MassChallenge Impact Calculator, a Greenhouse Gas accounting tool developed by Bühler to quantify the sustainability impact of their innovations. The tool uses the Greenhouse Gas Protocol as a quantification standard to estimate the carbon footprint of start-ups 10-years into the future when they have scaled their business. It then enables companies to model capital CO2e emissions, such as building factories, over a 10-year time horizon to model and communicate the sustainability impact of new products and technologies. Such models enhance the discussion between investors, MC judges, corporates, and start-ups in the search for new business ideas with a sustainability impact. Good luck to all the start-ups in the 2024 cohort! When it comes to innovation, sometimes the most impactful changes come from within. Case in point: Lotte, a visionary Japanese chocolate manufacturer, recently faced the pivotal decision to modernize their production line ✨ 🍫 🛠️ Rather than opting for the path of purchasing brand-new equipment, Lotte chose to retrofit their existing machinery to improve its mix of old and new machines for chocolate production. The retrofit not only resulted in considerable cost savings but also marked a significant stride towards energy conservation and minimization of environmental impact. How do you ensure high quality training in skills that are relevant to business? 🌍 A US delegation of 40 business leaders from the CEMETS iLab Indiana coalition visited the Bühler Apprentice Academy in Uzwil, Switzerland, on June 18, to gain insights into how to scale youth apprenticeship across Indiana’s advanced manufacturing industry. Delegates met with Bühler Group CEO Stefan Scheiber, CHRO Irene Mark-Eisenring, Head of Apprenticeship Andreas Bischof, and current apprentices. They toured the Bühler Energy Center, a hub for state-of-the-art apprenticeship training for various technical and commercial roles. The goal of CEMETS iLab Indiana is to ensure that by 2034 every student and adult learner in Indiana has access to high-quality education and training options to address the state’s workforce crisis. It is supported by over 100 leaders and collaborates with the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, Ascend Indiana, and CEMETS (Center on Economics and Management of Education and Training Systems) at ETH Zürich, Switzerland. Bühler has been dedicated to providing vocational training since 1915, training 544 apprentices globally in 2023. The apprenticeships cover 10 different vocational fields and are based on the Swiss dual-vocational model, which combines practical and academic training. Claire Fiddian-Green, President and CEO of the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, highlighted the need for an additional high-quality education and training pathway beyond the academic-only approach. “We learned a great deal from our visit to Bühler. The practical insights will inform how we scale our apprenticeship programs in Indiana,” she said. Visit https://lnkd.in/e94EtipW to find out more about apprenticeships at Bühler. #BuhlerGroup #YouthApprenticeship #WorkforceDevelopment #Manufacturing #VocationalTraining #Education #SkillsforFuture #Indiana #SwissApprenticeshipModel #GlobalStandards #EconomicGrowth
