Our Bodies

The CBSS's vision is being realised through well-developed networks between experts, officials and professionals in the relevant fields and through project work.

The CBSS works with professionals organised into expert groups and networks, hosted by the CBSS, to implement its goals and long-term priorities in the Baltic Sea Region. These groups bring together representatives from responsible ministries and authorities in our Member States to address pressing issues and challenges facing the Baltic Sea Region, fostering transnational cooperation and coordinating a concerted response among CBSS Member States.

Current main CBSS bodies

Civil Protection Network
The CBSS Civil Protection Network (CPN) connects civil protection agencies across the Baltic Sea Region to share developments, address challenges, and prioritise key issues in civil protection and societal security for collective action.

Expert Group on Children at Risk
The CBSS Expert Group on Children at Risk (EG CAR) envisions a Baltic Sea Region where children’s rights, as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, are fully respected. The group promotes children’s rights and strengthens national child protection systems through regional dialogue and practical cooperation.

Expert Group on Sustainable Maritime Economy
The CBSS Expert Group on Sustainable Maritime Economy (EGSME) provides a platform for experts from CBSS Member States, the European Commission, and pan-Baltic organisations to coordinate efforts, share best practices, and advance sustainable growth in the maritime sector while protecting marine ecosystems.

Task Force Against Trafficking in Human Beings
Established in 2006, the CBSS Task Force against Trafficking in Human Beings (TF-THB) consists of government representatives from all Member States. Its mission is to raise awareness, prosecute perpetrators, and assist victims, while strengthening anti-trafficking policies and preventive measures in the Baltic Sea Region.

Other bodies

The CBSS achieves its goals through cooperation with well-established networks of experts, officials, and professionals across the Baltic Sea Region, operating to varying degrees under the CBSS umbrella. These experts collaborate to build a more resilient and sustainable region by focusing on areas such as cultural heritage, children’s rights, science, the labour market, civil security, and the prevention of environmental crime.
