Canada Research Chair in Digital Information Law and Policy | University of New Brunswick | Faculty of Law
Technology and access to justice work continues this week at UNB Law with a series of access to justice workshops focused on defining priorities, discussing practical needs, modernization, and digital trust. We started this past Monday and will continue throughout the year. Big thanks to Rachelle Standing who discussed initiatives at the Court of King's Bench, Michelle Thompson and PLEIS-NB's leadership, to Aaron Unger who presented the work of BC's Digital Trust team, to Christine O. for answering all the hard questions (such as what is access to Justice), and to Hilary Young who discussed small claims adjudication. I am particularly thankful to our keynote speaker Ignacio Cofone for initiating exciting discussions about AI and privacy. The Chief Justice of New Brunswick, and Chief Justice Court of King's Bench have set the tone championing modernization initiatives for the NB justice system. We are witnessing a distinctive moment of collaboration between our judiciary, our government, and our civil society institutions, working together with the research community to improve access to justice in the province. I would say that we are off to a great start of the academic year at the University of New Brunswick!
