Planning and implementation of #adaptation is generally increasing, but not fast enough. More support and more ambition are required. Published today, UN Environment Programme’s #AdaptationGap report finds 87% of countries have a national adaptation planning instrument in place, but progress towards complete global coverage has slowed significantly over the last four years. Many countries that have not yet initiated a process for developing a national adaptation planning instrument are facing internal fragility, conflict and geopolitical tensions. Developing countries will likely need greater levels of financial and technical support to speed up progress and address gaps on adaptation planning. All countries that have submitted national adaptation plans (NAPs) to UN Climate Change #UNFCCC have also included an adaptation component in their nationally determined contribution (NDC). While the differing timelines and policy cycles of #NAPs and #NDCs challenge their alignment, countries should leverage their NAP processes in preparing their updated NDCs for 2025 to support more effective adaptation action.  Read more: https://lnkd.in/gWMHKEk7

📣 We successfully completed 2️⃣ workshops on #humanmobility, #NAPs, and #local adaptation planning in Esparza canton, #CostaRica 🇨🇷! More and more countries are working to make their 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 processes gender-responsive, socially inclusive, and participatory. 🌱💧 Costa Rica is using inclusive approaches in implementing climate change adaptation actions for a resilient agricultural sector while grappling with the effects of droughts near the Reventazón river catchment.
