  • The Canadian Healthcare Business Development Network

The Canadian Healthcare Business Development Network (CHBDN or the Network), meets annually, to collaborate on and to discuss leading ideas and innovations. The Network, now in its 7th year, represents business development leaders from major Canadian academic, research intensive teaching hospitals, as well as administrators from several provincially-based regional health authorities. Collectively, our institutions are estimated to represent over $25 billion in annual healthcare expenditures. Our role is to seek out innovative ideas from within our own organizations as well as outside our walls, which can be translated into a financial opportunity that is consistent with our mission and values.

We are driven to increase ROI from partnerships, which traditionally have been measured in financial terms, but we see a growing emphasis on qualitative aspects that stretch into reputational benefits. This is relevant since quality is a significant and unending focus of hospitals.

The importance of networking and building relationships is paramount within the Hospital Business Development sector. In recognition that we have only some of the answers, we invite selected private sector and academic groups to collaborate with us on an ongoing basis. These collaborations compel us to ‘push the envelope’, and introduce us to unique approaches and new lines of business helping us achieve our business development objectives.

The Ottawa Hospital has partnered with Ackroo, a local loyalty and rewards technology and services provider, to launch The Ottawa Hospital Employee Care Program - an exclusive loyalty and rewards program for hospital employees and volunteers that supports the local business community and creates new revenue for The Ottawa Hospital.

The program launches June 10, 2013 during The Ottawa Hospital’s Staff Appreciation Week.

Employees of The Ottawa Hospital will be issued an Employee Care Card that they use at participating businesses in the Ottawa area. For every dollar an employees spend at a participating business they earn a percentage of their purchase back in loyalty dollars that can be used towards future purchases at that business.
What’s more is that every participating business will contribute a portion of every employee purchase back to the hospital. Funds from the Employee Care Program will be used to purchase medical equipment. It's win-win!
