It was great to host the Minister of Mental Health & Addictions, Ya'ara Saks. With leaders in public safety, we discussed a range of important topics with our main message placed on the vital need for national investment in psychological health and safety training for Trauma Exposed Professionals. The bad news is that not enough of our Canadian Armed Forces members and First Responders receive it. The good news is that culturally specific programs exist and stand ready to be deployed. This critical gap can be closed quickly and as soon as governments of all levels decide to strategically invest (early and often) in the direct delivery of programs and services that support the mental health of those who keep our country and communities safe.

On this PTSD Awareness Day, we wanted to share the story of CAF Veteran Lauralee Mills. Lauralee struggled after returning home from Afghanistan and was eventually diagnosed with PTSD. The power of social connection that is created through our education and fundraising events helped her feel safe, supported and understood. For her, it was our Highway of Heroes Bike Ride where she took a major step forward in her wellness journey. She is now a WWC Ambassador and scheduled to participate in our Trauma Resiliency Program this fall. We thank Lauralee for her service and willingness to pay her experience forward to help others.

We are proud to announce that Legion Ontario Command has presented us with a $500,000 donation in support of our PTSD Service Dog program. This donation is made possible through Legion Ontario Command’s Operation Service Dog, which was established in 2018. This partnership provides stability of funding that helps ensure Veterans are paired with Dogs that meet the criteria for a WWC Service Dog, including: - ethical training standards for client and service dog teams - aftercare - financial transparency of training providers - and insurance coverage. Since 2018, Operation Service Dog has paired 61 Veterans with service dogs. Another 27 dogs are currently in training through this amazing program. “It is the hope of the Branches and Ladies’ Auxiliaries of The Royal Canadian Legion, Ontario Command that each Service Dog paired with a Veteran improves their quality of life. This donation of a half million dollars will continue making that happen.” — Ontario Provincial President, Derek Moore. We are grateful for the partnership with Ontario Legion Command and look forward to the continued life-changing results. The Royal Canadian Legion

80 years ago today some 14,000 Canadians, including D-Day Veteran Russell Kaye, secured Juno Beach as part of the largest seaborne invasion in history. By the thousands, they were willing to give, and gave, their tomorrow for our today. Let's pause and reflect on our freedom, security and prosperity. Above all, we will remember them
