A few weeks ago, we had the thrill of premiering an incredible new short film by the Water Brothers at Tawich in the City! We couldn't wait to share it with everyone because it’s just too good not to! Earlier this year, Parks Canada and Mushkegowuk Council made strides to protect the rich offshore marine environment of western James Bay and southwestern Hudson Bay representing 85% of the incredible marine conservation vision of the Omushkego people. However, federal jurisdiction does not extend to the coast and it would be a huge gap if left unprotected. We need the Ontario government to commit to safeguarding this vital ~1300 km coastline, home to millions of birds and diverse wildlife. ❌ Don’t leave these areas open for mining. Really excited for an upcoming event that the team at Wildlands League is putting on. I sit on the Board of Wildlands League, and we’ve partnered with the Mushkegowuk Council to present Tawich in the City, an evening of Indigenous music and art, leading science, and much more on September 25th.* A quote that was shared with me from one of the leaders of the community really resonated with me, “The idea of ‘braiding’ represents the strength of working together.” —Lawrence Martin, Two-term Grand Chief of the Mushkegowuk Council. At the event we'll be celebrating Canada’s great inland sea and the amazing people that live there at the beautiful Koerner Hall at TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning in #Toronto.
