Across West Fraser, we are proud to celebrate the recognition of our Nacogdoches, Texas, Oriented Strand Board (OSB) mill as the Large Business of the Year by the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce!   “Nacogdoches is a very welcoming hometown community and a great place for a wood manufacturing business due to a strong industrial network, a thriving business climate, a skilled labor force and access to major markets like Houston and Dallas,” said General Manager Bo McBride.   “Being a good neighbor and building connections is the key to a thriving community. This is why West Fraser Nacogdoches uses the services and support of local contractors, machine shops and vendors, as well as supporting local organizations, events, programs and initiatives that enrich the lives of the people who live and work here.”   West Fraser is grateful for this tremendous honor and we would like to congratulate all of the 2024 award recipients. Across our West Fraser operating areas in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Belgium, students are returning to the classroom. Wellbeing – including for our youngest community members – is a key priority for how we invest in the areas where we operate. Recently we partnered with the East Texas Boys & Girls Club to donate backpacks stocked with supplies to more than 360 children to help ensure the best possible start to the year. This is just one of the ways we are helping students have a strong start for back-to-school. Photos courtesy of Andrew Hodge and The Daily Sentinel.

West Fraser has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Williams Lake First Nation which recognizes the importance of the Nation in leading the forest resource management in their traditional territory while providing fibre security for West Fraser. Partnerships like this one will be key to restoring a thriving forest sector in the province.

Williams Lake First Nation has signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with West Fraser whereby the parties have agreed to combine their local tenure volumes into a single First Nations Woodland License (FNWL) to be held by Williams Lake First Nation. “The Joint Development Agreement and the associated FNWL represent a positive step towards reconciliation,” said Chief Willie Sellars. “This agreement allows Williams Lake First Nation to manage forestry activities in key areas of interest while keeping our stewardship priorities at the forefront. This agreement is positive for the sustainability of the forestry industry in our region and will deliver employment and long-term benefits to Williams Lake First Nation members, other residents, and the regional forestry sector.” “This agreement recognizes the importance of the Williams Lake First Nation in leading the forest resource management in their traditional territory, and continues our work of building new, meaningful partnerships with Indigenous Nations,” said Sean McLaren, President and CEO, West Fraser. “By providing a measure of fiber security for West Fraser, partnerships like this one will be key to restoring a thriving forest sector in the province.” Timber supply for the FNWL will come from the Central Cariboo Timber Supply Area. At West Fraser, we firmly uphold the importance of mental health. It's a message we are committed to amplifying within our team and throughout our wider network including the many rural communities in which we operate.   We are proud to partner with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) through an initial $450,000 funding contribution to support the development of a rural mental health strategy and the expansion of the CHMA’s Resilient Minds® training for firefighters and emergency responders.   “The Resilient Minds course has proven to be an invaluable resource for firefighters facing mental health challenges,” says Roger Hollander, Regional Fire Chief of Cariboo Regional District. “Through this program, participants have gained essential skills and strategies to navigate difficult situations, manage stress, and build resilience in their daily lives. West Fraser’s contribution has enabled us to reach a wider audience of firefighters and provided much-needed support to those in need.”

On Friday, West Fraser welcomed Scottish Deputy First Minister, Kate Forbes MSP to our mill at Inverness. Our leadership team enjoyed giving a tour of our operations and discussing the incredible potential that the forestry industry has for Scotland, following statistics released last week highlighting its significant economic impact. A key focus of the visit was to highlight our progress in implementing a new rail siding, which will not only boost efficiency but also contribute to lower transportation emissions by reducing our carbon footprint even further by taking more trucks off the road.
