Waterfront Toronto is the public advocate and steward of Toronto’s waterfront revitalization.
About us
Waterfront Toronto is the public advocate and steward of Toronto’s waterfront revitalization. We are in the midst of the largest urban redevelopment project in North America, putting people first and reconnecting our city to the water's edge. We are developing mixed-use neighborhoods with high-quality parks and public realm, state-of-the-art infrastructure and the highest standards of environmental sustainability. In 2001, the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto established Waterfront Toronto (then known as the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation) to oversee all aspects of the planning and development of Toronto’s central waterfront. Waterfront Toronto’s vision is to work with community and public and private sector partners to create waterfront parks, public spaces, cultural institutions, and diverse and sustainable commercial and residential communities. By employing global best practices and made-in-Toronto solutions, the city’s new waterfront communities will protect and enhance our natural environment, and will ultimately establish themselves as global models for sustainability. Over the past five days, attendees at Canadian National Exhibition shared their excitement and support for our unique proposal for a PlayPark in the Port Lands. Thank you to all who checked out the model and chatted with our staff! And thanks to our partners Mississauga's of the Credit First Nation for sharing their booth space with us. A landscape inspired by an ancient seabed: the Cheltenham Badlands were created 450M years ago when Ontario was covered by a sea. The Badlands Scramble in the Port Lands was created over the past few months by a crew of ‘concrete artists’ using ‘shotcrete’ https://lnkd.in/g3wy7Ap4

We're at the Ex with our larger-than-life model of PlayPark, a 3-acre play area unlike anything else in Canada. Find us at the Heritage Court in the Enercare Centre. Learn more about PlayPark on our website: https://bit.ly/4d1GMCR

Friday Photo: The photo on the right is from spring 2022, hard to believe it's the same place! Since then, we have planted hundreds of thousands of plants. To ensure the greenery thrives, we’ve had teams on site who take care of the growing process, from watering to interim wildlife control, and as you can see in this image, weeding! We hired two photographers to document the Port Lands’ transformation. They were on the construction site while we built the snowy owl. Here’s the construction through their eyes: https://lnkd.in/guJhw6ZN

The Badlands Scramble in the Port Lands is a play feature inspired by the Cheltenham Badlands, a natural heritage landmark. Its construction involved the use of ‘shotcrete’, a method of spraying concrete onto formwork to create interesting shapes. Check it out: https://bit.ly/4dpivY1

Building a 30-foot owl required a crane. Not the bird, the construction machine! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/guJhw6ZN
