About us
Water Rangers is a non-profit focused on inspiring the public to get involved by collecting water data around their local rivers and lakes. Current data collection methods and reporting are mostly time consuming and manual. Water Rangers will encourage more people to collect data, teach them how to conduct experiments, easily analyse the data, and be able to recognize risks to their waterways. Communities, schools, and all those who are already collecting data will be able to organize more trips and expeditions to collect water samples and general observations without overburdening already stretched conservation authorities and riverkeepers to manage the data.

What a fantastic morning at the Community Water Lab at Zero Carbon Guildford! Lab Lead Alan Thorogood led Gigi and Will on our regular testing protocols. Brandon Mayuga from Affinity Water dropped by to collect some samples to process at their lab (for comparison). AND! Kat Kavanagh and Gigi tried out a brand new citizen science E. coli method Beth Baker from Mississippi State University uses! We'll be comparing these three methods to report back to catchment and national partners as part of the #CaSTCo project. #poweredbyCaSTCo

Water Rangers is part of the UK's national #CaSTCo project (https://castco.org), building collaboration so that community monitoring can be better integrated into river recovery. See below for our latest collaborative video about a recent blitz event in the Severn!
It was Water Rangers' pleasure to support the Teme catchment’s water blitz day! Together with Severn Rivers Trust, Severn Trent, and the Environment Agency, we tested 10 different citizen science tests for chemistry and bacteria. We tested samples with our chemistry methods, and took samples back to our Community Water Lab (at Zero Carbon Guildford) to test for E.coli. This work is powered by #CaSTCo (Catchment Systems Thinks Collaborative), a national collaborative effort creating a framework so that community monitoring is part of river recovery here in the UK! https://castco.org
