Congratulations to the Mada Community Centrein Montreal, Québec in Canada, for being selected to receive a $1,000 #VoithCares donation! For 30 years, this nonprofit has been providing community members free and nutritious food and related support. Thanks to our Voith colleague and MADA volunteer, Inga Raskin, Senior Financial Analyst for Voith Hydro in Brossard, Quebec, who nominated the organization for the #VoithCares grant. The grant will help the nonprofit on their mission to serve more than 5,000 families annually! The first time Johann Matthäus Voith and his son Friedrich built a turbine with a tangential wheel for a pumping station to supply water to Burgberg Castle near Giengen an der Brenz was in 1860. 🎉 Ten years later, the next order came in to build a Henschel-Jonval turbine for a grinding shop in Schlettau, Bohemia. This order was decisive for Voith to expand its turbine business. They increasingly built Henschel-Jonval, Girard and Schwamkrug turbines for various customers. 🤝 In 1873, Friedrich Voith was the first German to build a Francis turbine. This was inspired by Voith's collaboration with the Heidenheim textile company C.F. Ploucquet through Professor Wilhelm Kankelwitz from the Stuttgart Polytechnic and it established Voith's cooperation with science. 💡 ➡️ The first Voith Francis turbine was designed for a gradient of 1.73 meters. It had an output of 25 horsepower. Friedrich Voith arranged the blades of the guide wheel so that they could be adjusted, making it possible to regulate a turbine for the first time. The great advantage of this was that it was possible to react to fluctuations in water and load. The turbine was in use at C.F. Ploucquet until 1904 and can be seen today in “Deutsches Museum” in Munich. #Voith #History #Turbine #Hydropower

Pittsboro Elementary School’s Panda Packs program in North Carolina in the U.S., has been selected to receive a $1,000 #VoithCares grant to help local students fight food insecurity. Panda Packs volunteers like our colleague, Chase Gibson from Voith Paper, prepare take-home bags of food for students at risk of hunger. Chase volunteers over his lunch break and nominated the nonprofit – which is a second-time #VoithCares donation recipient! Over 30 of our dedicated Voithians from the #Voith site in Högsjö, Sweden, laced up their running shoes to take part in the annual running competition in the town of Katrineholm at the beginning of August. ➡️ Throwing it back to 67 years ago when the first #Voith Water Tractor (VWT) was delivered in 1957 for use in the 193 km long Suez Canal. Remarkably, it is still in operation today, serving as an outstanding testament to the reliability and longevity of the Voith Schneider Propellers. The Egyptian ports chose the tireless VWT to handle the continuously increasing freight volume safely and efficiently, 24/7. 💙 In 1964, Voith's hundredth water tractor was launched at a shipyard in the Netherlands. The development went more and more in the direction of more powerful drives, which was no problem thanks to the Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP). 🛥️ In 1988, the 500th VSP was produced for a Voith water tractor. This year, Voith is writing the next chapter in its unique success story, as it delivers VSPs to Egypt for use in the 1000th VWT. 🎉 ➡️ For decades, the Voith Water Tractor concept has proven its effectiveness in practice and is a familiar sight at many major ports around the world. We support the dedication of our colleagues to the DLRG summer camps and the crisis intervention service of the Red Cross. 🌲 Summer Fun and Great Experiences in Nature 🌲 Sven-Hendrik Schmidt and Anika Jäger are two of our dedicated colleagues at #Voith who passionately contribute to the DLRG local groups in Herbrechtingen and Kösingen. Their commitment to teaching swimming skills to children and teenagers helps make the DLRG youth camp in Heidenheim an unforgettable experience for around 45 young participants each year. Similarly, the DRK/JRK Elchingen has been organizing a summer camp for years, offering children and teenagers a week full of adventure and camaraderie. Laurin Oberlader, Field Service Manager at Voith Turbo Marine, is one of the many dedicated counselors who support this event with enthusiasm. 💚 Crisis Intervention Service – First Aid for the Soul 💚 In challenging times, the crisis intervention service of the Red Cross in the Heidenheim district is there to help. Holger Loock, Project Manager at Voith Paper, is a founding member who has been dedicated to psychosocial emergency care for over 14 years. Thanks to the #VoithCares initiative, essential materials for emergency deployment can be purchased and training for the volunteers can be funded. The commitment of our colleagues shows how vital volunteer work is for the community. Which is probably the best-known standard in the world? 🤔 What do you think? We think it's the #ISO 216 standard! 💡 It is the standard for paper sizes. 📄 ISO 216 is based on a German industrial standard that has determined, for example, the size of an A4 sheet – exactly 210 by 297 millimeters – since August 18, 1922. ➡️ Today, paper is used for all sorts of things – for writing on, as packaging material, as hygienic paper or for special applications such as sales slips. All these papers are often produced on paper machines from Voith. As early as 1881, Voith manufactured its first complete paper machine PM1, which processed raw materials to the end product. But Voith was not only active in paper production at an early stage. In 1960, Voith became a pioneer in paper #recycling – at a time when environmental protection and resource conservation were not yet on society's agenda. Today, Voith is a full line supplier and provides various solutions for an efficient and sustainable papermaking process. #Voith #quality

In 1853, Voith presented a paper cutting machine at the Heidenheim District Trade Exhibition in South Germany. One year later, the company J.M. #Voith was listed in the Württemberg directory of the Central Office for Trade and Commerce. Johann Matthäus Voith's reputation quickly grew locally. Like his father, he was appointed to the office of municipal fireman in 1825, and in 1845 he was elected to the citizens' committee and later to the Heidenheim municipal council. In 1854, he joined the Heidenheim Trade Association, where he was particularly committed to the #railway connection. 🚂 The sponsored visit to the World Exhibition in Paris in 1855, organized by the central office for Trade and Commerce, gave Johannes Matthäus Voith important insights into French metalwork and English machinery. He quickly recognized the high quality of the exhibited work and the need to improve his own processes. However, this could only be achieved through the co-operation of several craftsmen and new tools and machines. 🧰 #innovation #history

Congratulations to The Seeing Eye in Morristown, New Jersey in the U.S., on being selected as a #VoithCares grant recipient! The nonprofit has been awarded $1,000 to help support their mission to train seeing eye dogs that enhance the independence, dignity and self-confidence of those who are blind. This nonprofit holds special meaning to Brittany Rupp, from Voith Turbo, who not only nominated the nonprofit for the grant, but who also volunteers as a “puppy raiser” with the nonprofit. In this role, Brittany has trained four Seeing Eye puppies. And since Brittany brings the puppies to the office, the entire team in York, Pennsylvania has been able to get involved in acclimating the puppies to a working environment!
