Our United Way, alongside United Ways across the province, sent a letter to call on the Ontario government to name intimate partner violence an epidemic, and adopt a comprehensive plan to address gender-based violence and support survivors. 184+ women and girls were violently killed in Canada in 2022. Alongside survivors, community service organizations, advocates and many others, we seek bold and decisive action to end the violence. Last night, we were honored to join Making Change for a special recognition event, celebrating the incredible impact of the Art Engagement Project, through their Community Collaborative Project, we are thrilled to announce over $280,000 in funding over the next three years to support the expansion of this vital initiative. Led by Making Change in partnership with MacLaren Art Centre, Wasaga Society for the Arts and regional school boards, the Art Engagement Project has touched the lives of over 1,000 students annually. By engaging local BIPOC artists, the program uses art to foster conversations around diversity, inclusion, and empathy—key components in building a stronger, more united community. At United Way Simcoe Muskoka, we believe in the power of collaboration to create meaningful change. As our community continues to evolve, initiatives like this help ensure that every student feels seen, heard, and valued. We’re so proud to support this important work and look forward to seeing its continued impact. #UnitedWaySimcoeMuskoka #MakingChange #CommunityCollaborativeProject #ArtEngagementProject #BuildingStrongerCommunities #DiversityAndInclusion #EmpathyThroughArt
