Labour Day has come a long way since its inception as a statutory holiday in 1894. Labour organizations across Canada celebrated the day with various events, such as speeches, games, etc. The day also worked as a workers’ forum and allowed time for rest and socializing outside the workplace. With time, the gathering aspect of Labour Day transformed into more of a day people liked spending with families.  Just like the holiday, the workforce has also transitioned over time. From industry-era workers to baby boomers to millennials and now GenZ, the way people work has shifted. Employees are no longer defining themselves just by their work — a sense of rediscovery is in the air. How work is delivered has also changed. From being on-site to working fully from home, we’ve come a long way. But there’s still more to go. Every generation of workers demands that employers adjust the work options they provide. Innovative employers review their employees’ needs so they can stay ahead of the curve and create employee sustainability.  Do you want to lead the pack in employee sustainability? Let’s talk! https://lnkd.in/gA8Gsdpx #labourday #labourdaycanada #workplaceculture

When I was by my dad’s deathbed, work was the last thing on my mind as I tried to hold onto every moment I could get with him. But my employers were pressuring me to answer work questions. I felt stressed and disrespected because my employer failed to realize my human needs. My employer’s behaviour made me realize organizations should rise to the occasion when employees have human problems. No matter how tempting it is to reach out to your employees when they’re out of the office (for whatever reason), don’t do it. I vowed that in my business, I would recognize and treat my staff as people with human needs and issues. And at True North HR, we do just that. We had a staff member who was struggling because of their neurodivergence. We stepped up and encouraged them to get tested for their skills — not for a diagnosis but to find ways to help them succeed in the work environment. That was part of our commitment to help each employee succeed. Bringing their neurodivergence into company culture made a world of difference for us and the staff member. You can do so much more when you pay attention and make room for them as people. Respect them as humans because doing so contributes to their wellness. You get the most out of employees when you treat them as adults and humans, not possessions. There are many ways of creating an employee wellness-first company culture. For instance, you can pay for 100% of the employee benefits, offer RRSP options, and provide flexible work options. An employee wellness-first company culture knows and offers the change that will impact each employee’s life. People always underestimate the amount of time recruitment takes. Always. Creating job descriptions, posting them on various platforms, sifting through the resumes, setting up interviews, conducting interviews, following up with references, etc.,  are just some of the tasks you take on when you recruit. You save time on ALL these tasks and more when outsourcing this process. Moreover, you remove bias from the process, because external recruiters also tend to be more objective. At True North HR (TNHR), we approach recruitment services creatively, so we can channel all the needed skills into your company. TNHR’s recruitment procedures go beyond just job posting and interviewing; we also do onboarding and exit interviews. For instance, we always respond to candidates and give them feedback if they ask for it. Internal hiring teams are great, but even they can use a helping hand. Save yourself time and energy and access top talent by outsourcing recruitment to the experts. • Hiring managers, watch out...AI-written resumes are here! Job seekers are using AI to pad their resumes in hopes of catching hiring managers' eye. They're plugging in keywords and wording their work experience more closely to align with the job. So, what can HR professionals do to sort through the fluff? Two words: Pay attention. It's easy for wiser recruiters to see past the smokescreen, but greener recruiters may need to sharpen their X-ray vision. Here are some tips to spot strong resumes. → Check for grammar → Look for keywords, if all the keywords appear in the resume, it's probably AI → A good resume will mention specific performance statistics → A strong resume should show job progression → Identify unverified job inflation that AI tends to slip in If you're still struggling with this, come chat with us: https://lnkd.in/gA8Gsdpx

The “Scale-Up Guy” accelerating good-to-great small to medium business revenue, growth & visibility as a fractional CRO/strategic advisor.

I once asked an interviewee, "I’d like to hire you for the rest of your career, how do you feel about that?" He hesitated and said, "It’s not realistic. I will plateau at some point." I countered, "What if I promised a continual learning environment?" His eyes lit up at that! Can you imagine giving someone steady, stable work AND unlimited growth opportunities? You can do it by working with your employees to create a path to growth and success. That’s what I did when I owned an agency. As a business owner, I always took the longevity approach when hiring. I would work with my recruits to set them up so they could dabble in roles they wanted to grow into in the company. This approach gave them the courage to try their skills at something else and not fear losing their jobs. That fellow above joined my agency as an Account Director. Years later, he asked if he could become a Creative Director. I agreed, on the condition that he maintain his old role while testing his skills in the new role. It didn’t work out, but we honoured our promise of a continual learning environment. He went on to become our most successful Account Director and continued to grow in that role — as did our business. Want to learn more about how to set up an employee-growth path? How do you grow your employees beyond the company? By creating a progressive hiring path from internship to management. It’s wonderful to grow employees with the company, and it’s fantastic if you grow them beyond that. Prop them up for ambition, even if it goes beyond your company. It’s very satisfying to set a learning path, developed with mutual commitment, that grows employees beyond who they were when you hired them. To do this, you need to consider what would motivate someone to work at your company. Build that into their job description. A large part of my job as an HR expert is people development. For that, I have to understand their motivations and goals. A common mistake I’ve seen companies make at the leadership level is not giving managers the time and opportunity to be visionaries. You hired them because they’re great at their day-to-day execution and technical skills. But if you never give them the time and opportunity to activate their creative brain, they can’t be strategic thinkers. Even from a neurological perspective, the part of the brain that envisions differs from the part that executes. But when one part of the brain is active, the other can’t be. A portion of a company leader’s role should be strictly dedicated to improving employee relations, testing structures, growing the team, and other strategic thinking. Allocate time and space for such strategic thinking. Remember to create a safe space for employees of all levels to give feedback about their goals. It can be challenging to get feedback, but that’s what helps you grow. Contact us at https://lnkd.in/gcCHhF3v to build a progressive hiring path. #recruitmentstrategies #buildingtalent #staffingtips
