240 days until Rotarians from around the world descend on Calgary for the Rotary International Convention 2025… not that we're counting 🎆 !   Since placing the bid for the event in 2017, Tourism Calgary and our partners at the Calgary Hotel Association, City of Calgary, The Calgary Stampede and Scotiabank Saddledome have been working alongside the Rotary International District 5360 Inc. Host Organizing Committee, Rotary International and many subcommittees to bring the event to our city. Calgary previously hosted the hugely successful convention back in 1996 earning us the reputation of the "best Rotary convention ever!" (Not that we're biased or anything 😁 ).   In preparation, our CEO Alisha Reynolds presented at the Rotary Downtown Club to share some information on Calgary's booming tourism industry and how our partnership is gearing up to ensure Calgary is "Rotary Ready" by June 2025.   The convention promises live up to its theme, Magic All Around. We have no doubt it will be a spectacular. Check out the details on the convention website here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gJpmW4CE   Thank you to Rotary Club of Calgary, Downtown for hosting us at your meeting!

What happens in Vegas… is proudly shared in Calgary!   Last week, the Tourism Calgary team and a few of our partners brought the #BlueSkyCity to the bright lights of Las Vegas at this year's IMEX America 2024, the world's largest trade show for the meeting, event, and incentive travel industries.   It's the ultimate meeting place for meetings and conventions.   As Tourism Calgary's Executive Director, David Woodward, says, "the tradeshow floor was BUZZING about Calgary." The talk of the week was Calgary's convention capacity with the new 500,000 sq ft BMO Convention Centre and the 122,000 sq ft TELUS Convention Centre as well as the investments being made in our arts, culture and hosting infrastructure!   Thanks for joining us The Calgary Stampede, Calgary TELUS Convention Centre Fairmont Palliser, Marriott Hotels of Calgary and the Residence Inn Calgary Downtown.

The front door to Stampede Park is now open!   The 17 Ave S.E. Extension & Vic Park/Stampede Station Rebuild is now complete, reopening a key corridor to The Calgary Stampede Park after 40 years and modernizing the LRT station to improve the accessibility and experience of Calgarians and visitors.   This project serves as a critical connector, supporting access to the expanded BMO Centre, Scotiabank Saddledome, the forthcoming Scotia Place, and The Culture & Entertainment District's broader development.   Planning a trip to Stampede Park? Calgary Municipal Land Corporation has also released the new C+E Access Map where you can explore the park and see construction and access impacts --> map.cedistrict.com   Great work by CMLC who led and funded this transformational project as the Development Manager on behalf of City of Calgary and Calgary Stampede.   This is just one of many projects underway that are enhancing the vibrancy of our city to benefit those who live in and visit our beautiful #BlueSkyCity

📣 It's an ACE for the Mount Royal University Cougars 🏐! Both the men's volleyball and women's volleyball teams have been chosen to host the 2027 and 2028 U SPORTS championships respectively.   It will be the first time ever that Mount Royal University will organize a U Sports championship since joining the circuit in the 2012-13 season. Read the announcement here --> https://lnkd.in/eP7WQmFN   "We return to our roots for the 50th anniversary of the first U SPORTS championship played, hosted by the City of Calgary in 1967. The tremendous support of the City of Calgary and Tourism Calgary played an essential part in the decision to award the championships to the City. We know that the Kenyon Court will vibrate with excitement as we celebrate the 15th anniversary season of MRU joining U SPORTS. " said Pierre Arsenault, CEO of U SPORTS.     "We are thrilled to partner with Mount Royal University in hosting their first ever national U Sports national championship and bringing such a prestigious event to the city for an unforgettable 'Calgary' experience," said Tourism Calgary's Senior Vice President Sales, Carson Ackroyd. "It takes an incredible amount of work and commitment to go after an event of this magnitude and I can't thank the team at Mount Royal enough for stepping up to bid on this event that will not only benefit the local economy but also inspire the next generation of local athletes." #GoCougars | Reid Bilben | Karla Karch

📣 Big news for University of Calgary Dinos basketball fans 🏀 ! The Dinos have been selected to host the U SPORTS 2026 Men's Final 8 Championships - the first time the championship will return in 46 years!   Read the announcement here --> https://lnkd.in/gA4jEchr   A major winning factor for the host city bid was the partnership between the University of Calgary, Tourism Calgary and the City of Calgary. And, as Dr. Ed McCauley, President and Vice-Chancellor of University of Calgary highlighted, "Getting these opportunities really is a team sport."   "Southern Alberta is a hotbed for basketball right now, and while this event is going to have upwards of $1 million in economic impact for the community, it is also going to inspire the next generation of basketball players," said Carson Ackroyd, Tourism Calgary's Senior VP of Sales. The first time the Dino's hosted the championships was in 1966 so it seems fitting the tournament will return for the University's 60th anniversary. #GoDinos Ben Matchett | UCalgary Faculty of Kinesiology | Reid Bilben

Tourism Calgary acknowledges the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour Residential School Survivors and the children who never returned home, as well as their families and communities. At Tourism Calgary, we are at the early stages of our journey in understanding how to best engage, collaborate and be guided by Indigenous people and businesses, and we recognize there is much work to be done. Earlier this year, our team participated in a Medicine Wheel ReconciliAction Mosaic workshop facilitated by Colouring It Forward owner Diana Frost and elder John Sinclair. During the workshop we were able to discuss how we can take an active part in Truth & Reconciliation. Diana guided us in painting tiles that represent, and are a visual reminder of, our commitments.
