The Stop Community Food Centre

A tree is known by its fruit, and a team by their work. This month, members of our Toronto GB Cares team returned to The Stop Community Food Centre to support them in refreshing their public-facing space where they host food banks and community building programs. After a visit in February, our team wanted to continue to support in making sure their physical space was as equally welcoming as the spirit and mission of the organization, which strives to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity. The Stop could not have been more gracious to host a meal for our volunteers during their day of service. As a cause close to GB’s heart, some of the proceeds from Cureapalooza will go to supporting The Stop. We were so lucky to have the good folks from Govan Brown & Associates visit our Food Bank to help with some key upgrades yesterday. The team visited back in February to repaint some of our walls, and quickly identified other areas they could improve. Yesterday, they returned with all the tools and equipment to make it possible, and spent a full day at work - with a break to eat our fresh homemade pizzas, salads and pastries, of course! Did somebody say free worms!? Join us for the first of our summer Urban Agriculture workshops, kicking it off with vermicomposting on Thursday 25 July 2024 from 5:30-7pm! If you have ever been interested in learning more about worms, compost and starting your own vermicompost bin at home, this is the place to be. A donation of $5-$20 is encouraged but not required. Last week we relocated our meal services to our Wychwood Open Door location to accommodate the unexpected TCHC renovations happening at 1884 Davenport Road. The Stop chefs have been delighting our diners with tasty and nutritious meals as we and our community members adjust to the changes. Here is a sample from last week's menu: Chicken Burgers with pickles and tomato, potato salad, and spinach salad.
