Great news—Chief Myron Demkiw is 5 years cancer-free! After a recent visit to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, he received the words every survivor hopes to hear. I don’t often share personal posts here, but today I am filled with gratitude after my wife and I visited Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to learn that after 5 years I am cancer free. To my family members & colleagues, and my care team: thank you for everything. Read my story: https://lnkd.in/gHgRwDfn

After her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, Becky performed a selfexamination for the first time and was shocked to find a lump. Not only did further tests confirm that Becky too had breast cancer, but they revealed she was a triple negative, which is more aggressive and difficult to treat. She would require the highest standard of care, and she knew The Princess Margaret was best suited for her situation. Today, as Becky approaches the important five-year milestone of being cancer free, she is grateful to the entire team for their ongoing care, not to mention the generous supporters who make this important work possible. This October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, support The Princess Margaret in our mission to help more patients like Becky overcome the odds. Together we can create a future free from the fear of breast cancer.

Getting a cancer diagnosis can be terrifying. At Princess Margaret, we are dedicated not only to advancing research and treatment methods but also to ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care and support from peers and medical staff possible. That’s why we’ve established Peer Navigation programs to build a community and help everyone feel less isolated or lost in their diagnosis. Keith Braganza went through prostate cancer treatment in 2015 and has been participating in the program as a navigator since 2016. “Prostate cancer is a unique illness in that it affects patients in a very personal way, and there are important decisions to be made,” he said, “It can be easier to talk to a stranger who has gone through what you are about to go through to give their insights on how to deal with the process.” Thanks to the participation of survivors like Keith, our helps patients feel less alone while navigating their options.

We’re incredibly grateful to Mark and Katia DiVito, along with Vic De Zen and family (Vision Profile Extrusions Ltd.), Brite-Con Sales Inc., Futureline Plastics Inc., and Team Global for their extraordinary commitment of $1,000,000 to support the Hans Messner Allogeneic Transplant Program at The Princess Margaret. Mark’s experience with leukemia, diagnosed during the peak of COVID-19, was anything but straightforward. After undergoing a life-saving stem cell transplant and spending over 100 days in recovery, he’s now two years post-transplant and thriving. Inspired by his journey and the care he received, Mark brought together a network of colleagues and suppliers to give back to the program that helped save his life. This generous gift will enable groundbreaking advancements in treating blood-based cancers and help more patients reach life-changing milestones, just like Mark.
