The City of Winnipeg is currently looking to hire a contractor to reopen Winnipeg's famous Portage and Main intersection! Following a decision made in March, Winnipeg's City Council has voted to reopen the intersection to pedestrians, with the ambitious goal of allowing foot traffic by next July. City Council is hurrying to complete this project by next summer because it needs the construction work completed before a major Winnipeg Transit route overhaul launches on June 29. Today is Orange Shirt Day and the fourth National Day for Truth and Reconciliation! On September 30th, people across Canada wear orange to honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never made it home and acknowledge the ongoing impacts on Indigenous people and their communities. At TPG, we believe reconciliation is a collective responsibility. It's important to learn about the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, including the residential school system and other dark times in Indigenous history like The Sixties Scoop, which saw Indigenous children forcibly removed from their homes and communities in the 1960s. Every September, survivors and their descendants share experiences and discuss the intergenerational effects of transmitted personal trauma, loss of language, culture, traditional teachings and other correlated impacts. We encourage everyone to take time today to take part in these conversations and show support by wearing orange. This premier boxing event is a standout among Manitoba's corporate charity fundraisers, featuring Olympic-style boxing while promoting awareness for charitable causes in our community. Exciting news! Young Construction Leaders of Manitoba (YCLM) just launched a new hands-on event to further develop your construction skills ▶️ Last Thursday, YCLM hosted speakers from Owens Corning, Flynn, Henry, and Northern Facades to go over different sustainability perspectives of wall construction, focusing on the building envelope process. This event included dinner, speakers and a chance to use what you learned. The guests covered thermal envelopes, environmental considerations, construction materials and installation methods.
