Something a little different from me: a personal essay about my son's university search. I'm a proud McGill mom now. But getting my first-born child to select a university was a devil of a job. My son Remy places a premium on school culture and community. I understood why. I was a misfit at my alma mater back in the 1990s. These days, there is much more for young people to consider when searching for the right school. Academics are only one factor because costs are higher, the competition is steeper and there is an acute pressure to fit in thanks to social media. Instagram is the new student commons. If you're a parent of a Grade 12 student, I offer these tips for finding the right fit for your child. #education #university #postsecondary

Thanksgiving weekend is here, which for many could mean dinners with people you don't see regularly - and with whom you may not quite see eye to eye. So what do The Wharton School Dr. Matthew Killingsworth and Princeton University's Dr. Daniel Kahneman have to do with that? Erin Anderssen took a look at their "adversarial collaborations" on the topic of happiness, and thought we may be able to learn a few things from them - which yes, can be applied to the Thanksgiving dinner table too. #happiness #howtolive #thanksgiving
In the perpetual quest for the secret to happiness, scientists butted heads until they found an answer

About a year ago, The Globe and Mail personal finance team noticed that nobody in Canada was producing an unbiased, unsponsored guide to credit cards. So... we built one. And when I say "we," I mean Chen Wang, Yang Sun and Christopher Manza built one, with the help of dozens of other colleagues. Meanwhile, I occasionally went to meetings and said things like "Sounds good to me" and "I don't know, maybe two?" It's a terrific resource for Canadian consumers - and so slick to boot. https://lnkd.in/gPNhq3hf
