Last week we hosted 'Truth to Transformation: Implementing Reconciliation in your Business' with the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce 🟧 Thank you Bashir Mustapha for the video recap!
🌿 As we celebrate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, last week's #TechThursday panel explored how businesses can authentically integrate reconciliation initiatives into their operations. We explored how businesses can support reconciliation by integrating Indigenous-led initiatives. Programs like Manitoba CPA's Indigenous Learners are reshaping financial education with a culturally relevant approach, training nearly 100 individuals. Chris also shared his journey, building trust with over 200 First Nation communities, emphasizing transparent plans and shared benefits. The key takeaway? Tech Thursday summary for Sept 26th 2024 “Reconciliation and How to Incorporate it into your Business" 📢 Sponsored By SkipTheDishes Neo Financial Manitoba Technology Accelerator Norima Consulting Inc. Amiron Ventures Go Oil,Snowflake Hilltop Partner Network FeedFlo Conquest Planning Inc. Lotlinx, Inc. 📢 Host Paul Card CEO Manitoba Technology Accelerator 📢 Moderator: Renee Greyeyes, President & CEO, Indigenous Chamber of Commerce 📢 Panel: Geeta Tucker, FCPA, FCMA, President & CEO of CPA Manitoba Christopher Henry, President, Indigenous Canadian Medical Dispensaries As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, last nights Tech Thursday panel delved into how businesses can effectively integrate reconciliation initiatives into their operations. The discussion centered on indigenous business and purchasing initiatives, emphasizing the success stories and challenges faced in this journey. One key highlight was the Indigenous Lerner's approach for accounting by the Manitoba CPA's, shifting the focus from mere profit-making to incorporating culturally appropriate content and narratives while teaching financial concepts. With groups of 30 learners led by indigenous instructors, nearly 100 individuals have been trained by this program to date. Chris's remarkable journey included touring over 200 First Nation communities before launching his business, emphasizing the importance of understanding and sharing resources within healthcare for community benefit. Overcoming challenges required years of building trust through transparent plans that shared economic benefits. Leadership support was crucial in recognizing reconciliation as an opportunity for growth, stressing the significance of consistent relationship-building and attentiveness to indigenous communities' needs and wishes. Cost concerns at Manitoba CPA were initially raised regarding Reconciliation initiatives but were quickly debunked, highlighting the need to balance perceptions of reconciliation efforts and underscore the necessity for First Nation CPAs. Looking ahead, the focus remains on supporting indigenous entrepreneurs by addressing pressing issues like the unique tax questions Indigenous entrepreneurs face and finding the funding to grow. Indigenous communities are looking for partnerships to grow their economic potential and its critical that potential Partners don't overpromise what they can do while owning and learning from any mistakes made during the partnership process. #Reconciliation #manitoba Richard McAlpineDonna McAlpine, PMPClint UnrauMichael HarmerJackie RomansTerry WangJohn SparrowRavneet KaurSajjad HeydariChris FransooCorinne GusnoskiDerek Boutang, FCPA, FCMAAdam RehillBashir MustaphaPavlo RomanskyiShane GruskoDavid PetersBahram Moeinian
