A look back at the Project Forum 🌍 Across Europe, young people are a source of innovative ideas and solutions emerging locally to address water and biodiversity issues. 💧🌿 At the Project Forum, 16th EYPW members and partner organizations had the opportunity to share these solutions, many of which have already proved their worth. We are delighted to announce the election of Magdalena Zivanovic as President of the 16th European Youth Parliament for Water ! 👏 During her campaign, Magdalena was particularly committed to representing and uniting young people to build a sustainable future, particularly in terms of protecting water and biodiversity. To this end, she will be able to draw on her experience as President of the Sava Youth Parliament. Congratulations also to the two elected Vice-Presidents, Lisa Oppermann and Oleg Tihon, who are committed to raising the voice of youth for European water. 16TH EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT FOR WATER 🌍 European Youth Mobilize for Water and Biodiversity in Hungary 💧 From October 20 to 26, 2024, over 100 young Europeans gathered in Budapest and Szolnok for the 16th European Youth Parliament for Water (EYPW). This unique event, organized by the Secrétariat international de l'eau - International Secretariat for Water focused on the critical intersection of Water and Biodiversity, a theme that is becoming increasingly urgent in today’s climate. As a representative of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), I had the opportunity to participate on the 23rd day’s panel session (“All levels of actions and decisions mobilized to protect water and biodiversity”) and share insights on the regional and hungarian national water strategy. While my work with Ludovika University and the General Directorate of Water Management of Hungary was partially represented, the focus was on the broader basin-level thinking that the Danube River Basin demands. Personal engagement is key—I was thrilled to engage with professionals from different fields. You all are awesome, and I’m always open to collaborate with you! 🌟 Water connects us all—it’s not just about civil engineers. We are all water managers, and it’s crucial to include multi-sectoral knowledge in managing this vital resource. We must understand and involve the next generation in the planning, because what we do today will shape the future for the next two to three generations. Water management must be calculable and forecastable, and we need to work across sectors to ensure that our solutions are sustainable. One of the most exciting initiatives in this space is the Danube Youth Council, which empowers young voices in the decision-making process. Applications are now open!
